    Default 2871r questions

Well my s14 black tops t-28 just took a shit and well i am looking for a new turbo . I have my eyes on a 2871 r in a .64 trim because i was told of the super fast spool and nice power band . But the .86 ar trim is upwards of 400 + hp but the spool is pretty laggy . So i called around to some diff shops for prices and I talked to a guy , which he stated they come in 3 diff trims on the compressor wheels . He suggested I go with the biggest compressor trim because it creates more hp per lbs of boost . Also that the .86 ar is not gonna make a real significant difference in turbo spool . But I here many diff oppinions and well i want to hear what people have to say from the people that have them on the car . I want to have quick - moderate spool nice power . My goal is to be able to drift , auto cross and still have it capable of being perfectly streetable . As far as hp I want roughly 360- 380 whp and up to 400 if I wanted but truthfully 380 is perfectly fine .

I agree, I would like to hear some opinion on this.

Well I have had the 2871.64 on my red top and I loved it. With cams and intake manifold and a ggod tune you could hit 350whp at 18-19psi. The turbo had instant spool and was very fun to drive but if I would have remained bottom mount I would have went with the .86 housing. Without cams or intake I made 301whp with an enthalpy tune, if I fined tuned it alittle more I could have gotton around 315whp. Full boost is around 3800rpms with the .64 and 4200 with the .86 With cams iand intake you will spool later. If you really wanted to be bad ass, you should get a t3 flanged gt2871.64 with a topmount mspi/tdf exhaust mani, greddy intake manifold and hks step 2 272 cams, meth inj. or race gas and 21psi. You would be close to 400whp and spool fast as shit.

Well the thing is i want to keep this streetable its my daily and to be honest i am never really gonna see 4200 rpm in daily driving well maybe but more than likely not . The 64 ar is more suited to me , but right now i have the suction kit , z32 maff and the greddy 02 pipe and the down pipe . I am searching for some 550cc injectors to tune with my super afc and eventually an enthalpy rom burn . Its just i want around 350-380 and from what I am told it is acievable with the .64 and the .86 if it was a highway car .

You will be hard pressed to make over 350 with that .64

    Default interesting...

i'm in the same boat. i just boosted my integra with a gt28r, the spool and response is great. it made 250whp on my motor, but i was looking for about 300whp on my daily with similar response, cuz i don't really track the car. and if i did i'd probably be auto-xing it. the gt28r is too small for that goal...

i had my eye on the 2871 with the .64 or similar trim as well. wouldn't really want to go as big as an .86 because my motor is a 1.8L so it might make it too laggy. i'm still researching tho. i'm guessing you have a 2.0L engine in your s14 so it could probably spool the .86 just fine and easily meet your hp goals. the .64 will spool the quickest but i dunno if you'll make 350 with it...maybe another trim is available?

what do s14s rev to? stock gsr's rev to 8200, so i see 4k every day on the street (usually shift at 4k tho), especially on the hwy...

good info in this thread tho...+1 to nyteryder. good luck finding a turbo
