What's better with a turbo....longer or shorter gears? and why? GS-R vs. ITR gearbox.

GSR FTW!
Llonger = better (generally speaking). It really only comes into play (in my opinon) on larger turbos though. For a small turbo w/ quick spool, stick w/ what you got. And cost/availability is why the GSR gears are chosen over the ITR.

For drag racing....with all things being equal... itr 1-3 and gsr 4th.
Look at chuck seitsinger...he runs B16/ITR 1-3 and GSR 4th and runs low 8's.
you also want to look at what rpm you will fall into when u upshift and if its within ur powerband.

Chuck won it ALL against mofos w/ the XTRAC ($10,000 tranny) too. But he was rebuilding after EVERY event. When I was stationed in Oklahoma City (97 - 00) He was a nobody... he worked at the Honda dealership in the parts department!! LOL

you're on street tires and only reving up to 8680rpm. He's reving his up to 11,000rpm with 26" slicks.Originally Posted by speedminded
If you rev yours up higher and bigger slicks you can do it too...maybe not in the 1/4 but eventually LOL.... unless you have 1200+whp
