Default What's the best PERFORMANCE CAR for under 100K?

In your opinion what is the best performance car under $100,000.00 and why? It has to be a production car available here in the states, old or new!

    What is mine?:

    http://www.nissanusa.com/buildyournissan/summary/index

Because it handles great, goes 0-60 in under 3 seconds, the interior is nice, and it looks great. It's the complete package.

ZR1 is over 100K so its not an option.

FYI: the 2012 Z06 with the the Z07 option is faster than the 2012 GT-R around "The Ring". That is with a professional driver, which none of us are. The new 2013 GT500 is going to be priced in the sub 60k range and is the highest HP V8 ever mass produced with 650HP from the factory, AMAZING bang for the buck street cruiser/highway on ramp killer. With all that said, I would pick the GT-R. It does EVERYTHING really really well. Catless Y-Pipe + Tune = 10 second 1/4 miles passes, extremely fast around a road course, great handling and braking, nice interior, ect.

GT-R is the clear choice if you are ok with paying supercar maintenance for fluids and brakes. Also aftermarket parts have a "GT-R Tax" with the cheapest exhaust around $3900. For the average guy, and even the "good drivers" the GT-R will be the best performing car under 100k.

    2009 GT-R was slower. 2012 GT-R is faster

Define "PERFORMANCE", are we talking all around car or just raw speed?

Id probably say a C6 z06 for the money is the best car around. Handling speed MSRP etc. Much easier to maintain than the Tech Heavy GTR. Dont know much about the SNAKE, although i heard it was pretty nasty

They looked great but just to heavy for only 320HP at $40k hell a New V6 camaro or mustang would hang with it stock4stock.

With 40k, you can make well into the 600+ Reliably w/ out opening the motor.

New Mustang wouldnt be able to hang stock vs. stock. I know this for a fact, because I ran a 2011 Mustang w/ Exhaust against my 1990 MK3 7M BPU @ 7psi and we were neck and neck.

Hate to be that guy but I just wouldn't ever buy a GTR......Viper all day, baby. Yea you can bench race me all you want and talk about your boss lap times you've never done, but when I'm ripping shit up in a v10 powered Miata I really won't care at all.

GTR is the best bang for the buck, vipers are not easy to drive fast if so they would dominate the streets vettes are nice.

    EDIT:

    MSRP for Z06- $75.000
    MSRP for GTR-$89,000

for $14,000 LESS its hard to argue against the Vette IMO

oh and the vette gets better highway Gas Mileage LOL

Like Chad said the GTR comes with supercar maintanence, Z06, not so much. Its a chevy.

GTR is much more sophisticated, much more refined.

yeah Vipers are often overlooked but they arent as user friendly as a GTR from what i have HEARD.

I still think the Z06 has got to be in that lineup, not even the ZR1. Just the plain jane Zo6. Sure it may not be as fast as the GTR, but what is the MSRP price difference? Isnt the z06 still 65K? GTR still around 80-90K

There's no doubt that the GT-R is a beast but I personally would take the vette. If I've got 100k to play with that extra 25k will go a long way in makin the vette faster. Plus paying 5k for a brake job on the GT-R like car and driver did on their test model does not sound like fun. It may have been motortrend but it was one of those magazines

FYI: Doing aftermarket performance brakes: rotors, pads, fluid, lines and labor is half of what the dealer charges for OEM. Plus it makes the braking capabilities INSANE. I was sore from the seatbelt bruising me after a day at the Tail of the Dragon in a GT-R with upgraded rotors, pads, fluid and lines. No joke, my shoulder area had visible bruising LOL

The funny thing is most people who have never driven any of these cars base everything off of magazine stats.

my choice for a car to drive on the STREET, is a 911-S w/ PDK tranny. Its more raw than every other car in the list (maybe the viper is similarly raw but much less refined). Sitting next to any RWD manual car at a light, the 911 is going to have a shot no matter how fast the other car may be. I'd wager that 99% of all guys driving z06s or vipers around town would get raped by the 911 PDK launch control from a light.

The GT-R is just not sporty enough. Sure it hauls ass and does well on a track but it's still a heavy tank with a fraction of the 'feel' that a 911 has.

911-S (natural sports car, raw feel is fun)
GTR (can't argue with 2012 performance)
    e92 (fun factor and luxury)
z06 (bad ass but not a good street car)
viper (its a chrysler, rock bottom no matter how fast or good looking)

that would be my order for a car to drive around on the street.

I have driven most of the cars talked about in this thread, and I have driven them hard. I have not driven a Viper before though. I have also not driven a PDK Porsche, yet.(but have driven manual GT3's)

I agree with most of your points, except the E92 being above the C6Z. The current M3 is an awesome car, don't get me wrong BUT these days you have $35k Mustang GT's out braking, corning and accelerating them. The M3 is a fantastic luxury sports coupe but there are MUCH better performance cars out there for the money. At least for a guy like me who is A LOT more focused on performance than luxury.

Yeah the 2011 revisions to the C6s are nice too. I think if the title of the thread was best performING car then the M3 would not be anywhere close to the others. I just like the balance of the whole package in the M3. And yeah the new mustangs are fast, especially the boss 302. I hear they rev the boss motors to 8200 no problem with tuning... but the stickers and bulky looks really turn me off. I just don't know if I could drive one.

Although the Cobra came in last with the quarter mile, the price of the Cobra + upgrades would still be cheaper than either the ZO6 or the GTR and probably be faster.

Dude, the 2013 GT500 with an intake, pulley, exhaust and tune will be a highway MONSTER. Some mod'd GT-R owners will be getting their feelings hurt from a roll with those.

As for right off the show room floor performance, the GT-R is superior.

Okay well I just did a quick search and the search was based on 2010 models.

But as for off the show room floor, the GT-R is probably still superior to all.

The ONLY Porsche I would own under 100K is the air-cooled badassness that is the 930:

If we were to divide into different classifications, I would also venture to say the Genesis and the upcoming Focus ST are two contenders with huge potential.

Yes I do know about the Genesis being a current car but figured I would throw it out there too.

Just saw this on the GT-R forum: it is official the 2013 model does 10.8's factory. In order to run you bone stock car at the drag strip you would need a 4 point cage ROFL!!!!

FYI: The 2011 model in JDM Land is our 2012. The 2012 in JDM Land is our 2013(which will be here in March)

Not much can touch that other than maybe the ZR1.

As for the 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake, we are looking at an option of having 800hp from the factory in the price range of the GT-R. If it still doesn't compete, then the GT-R is once again far more superior.

    I'd like to see the 2012 GT-R vs 2012 GT500 Super Snake vs 2012 Corvette ZO6.
