Default Registering an imported car that's ALREADY REGISTERED IN THE US..

If a you trade cars with someone with an imported car, will you have trouble with it? Same state and all, just unsure of how all the title transferring would work out..

Shouldn't be any issues. I don't think Georgia is re-titling 16 digit VINs anymore but if it already has a GA title I don't see any issues.

Someone who has done it before should chime in.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping for. It's an '01 type R, and I've never had an imported vehicle(it's going to be my girlfriends if she wants it) so I was unsure if I would run into issues registering it. Thanks man.

I know someone has a true honda integra here. Help me out!

Wouldn't necessarily look for someone with a true H-ITR more so than just finding someone who has owned an imported vehicle. Same concept applies for all vehicles.

My car was imported from Canada..

As long as it's registered here already and isn't a skyline you should be fine

Is it REALLY TITLED or is it a vin swap. Thats the question.

It can't have a legit state title if it's OBD2 as it won't pass emissions or meet emissions standards.

It's either a bogus state title or he vin swapped it.

Having said that, if it has a "title" you can transfer it. Don't say it on here, but if it's vin swapped (meaning it has a title from a different integra) you need to do this:

    1) write a bill of sale for the "us integra" the title came from like you bought it for parts.

    2) write a bill of sale for a Jdm 01 integra type-r

That way if anything ever happens you guys arent getting busted for a federal crime. He sold you two "parts" cars. You claim you rebuilt the "us " car with the Jdm car (firewall swap, rhd conversion, etc).

PM me if you don't get it

Canadian cars aren't much different than US cars IIRC. We are talking two different countries here though. Certain R33s are legal FYI.

they are the ONLY LEGAL car allowed in the USA.

I have this discussion every few years with people and they still dont get it. ANY JDM CAR IN THE USA IF IT IS NOT A R33 Skyline is here ILLEGALY as far as the FEDs are concerned. The fact that certain people can get a state title, doesnt mean its legal.

    In a nutshell.......

Motorex was the only legal importer of the Skyline. Everything was kosher until the federal agents realized Motorex was using the crash test data they proved from the R33 and applied it to all models. The problem with this is each model is completely different. When asked about the crash data, they reported "like similarities" between the three models they were importing. This was proven wrong by Nissan officials and shit hit the fan from there. Motorex lost their import/export licence and all Skylines were labeled as illegal vehicles. Several people with R33s griped enough to allow the R33 to remain legal so long as it was a vehicle imported from Motorex and was a specific model they crashed to provide the data necessary for importation.

I remember reading about this not long ago but can't remember exactly where I read it. I think it was on the U.S. Skyline Owners forum.

EDIT: Here is some information to read up on that will tell you more.

In Alabama I called the DOT. I'm sure it's not legal since it's so new but it may have a title anyways. When cars were imported into California they were supposed to be issued a California State title. They told me in order to register under the 10 digit vin I'd need a copy of the microfilms from the transaction, the Cali State title and about $200. They are what is known as a "gray market" vehicle. But since they stopped issuing those titles a while back( I don't know when) they may know someone . The less you know the better off you are. Firewall swapped cars are legal right?...
Also the info on the test data is correct as far as crashes are concerned. There are some stupid differences between the US and JDM civics and integras like no airbags or bumper reinforcements.
