The y8 or the z6 are the best. Everyone has opinions about the both, but they are comparable. The plenum is bigger on the y8, but could run either no prob. 300+?? You need pistons, rods, head studs, etc.... stock head should be fine. A t3/t4 57 trim, .60/.63 will make that power, or a bullseye SPEC .70/.63. Its all abouthow much money you wanna throw into it.

i'd be willing to bet you could make 300 w/ a super 60 w/ a built bottom end and high boost...... stock head

i know someone that has alot of my old setup that i made 400whp/318torque in my ole sohc daily driver. I'm sure he will part with the stuff. Just might take a minute to get in touch with him. he still has the manifold, sleeved z6 block, built head, and all kinds of goodies...

    just let me know..

If you want to be a beast and your going to build it. With stock sleeves.... The best combo would be an A6 or y7 bottom end with a z6/y8 head. The y7/a6 have been proven to have best sleeves. Also there's a couple of people that have made 250 on that motor with no Vtec (Scotty from Mainstream has my old t25bb setup, and I believe he makes 256on a y7). I made 230 with an A6 bottom end and z6 head at 9psi on a 50 trim. Just headstuds. So 300 will be easy if you build it right. I have done quite a few d series builds. And have great success and awesome failure lol. But you live and learn. Good luck on the build

glad to see people are still working with the D

I've had mine turboed for the last 5 years on stock z6 motor (+arps) .. last 3 at 15psi on my 15G turbo that is falling apart already. But hey, at 14psi it made 232/206 to the wheels with quiet exhaust

for ~300whp you will need build bottom end and smaller t3/t4 combo. Heads are kind of restrictive, but for your goals stock one is fine, you'll just have to push more psi to get the air in. And then again, this is all piece of metal parts ... the important part is the brain - best advice I can give you, after seeing so many turbo Ds fail, and yet mine keeps going Meaning dont cheap out on good engine controls

    good luck

Take a look at the following threads from our sponsor section. It should give you a general idea of what works with what. All 3 are capable of 400's on pump gas and stock sleeves. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask, it's what we are here for.

i prefer the y7 w/ y8 intake manifold (if you want to go non-vtec) or z6 if you want to go vtec. james mentioned my setup making over 250whp stock using a gt25r turbo...it's now approaching it's 8th year boosted with 95k miles on the boost. the d-series heads are designed as a very fuel efficient eco head so the flow leaves something to be desired. 300 can be had on stock head, but working the head with a cam can make a huge difference especially if you end up choosing a larger turbo. i prefer gt28rs (disco potato) for quick spool and 300whp. there are tons of other turbo choices depending on what you're looking for.

scttydb411 knows what he's talking about.

D-series bits (especially used parts) are exceptionally cheap, its the true advantage to the D-series over some others. I don't see any reason to use a stock intake manifold when you can buy a used edelbrock manifold for cheap.

For the head, a stock head can make 300 if you blast it with boost from a big laggy turbo, but ideally you should at least get a cam. The zex/comp cam is great as are the bisi ones.

I highly suggest a BB turbo... and I'm biting my tongue a bit here but I can't help saying that I have lots of quality parts that you will want, but I need a hell of a lot more posts before I can post it all up on here.
