Dear FR-S,

I am writing this letter to help you along on your journey. What do you have to learn from me you say? Well, the answer should be somewhat obvious.

I too, was shouldered with the responsibility of saving a dying brand.

You will be launched with much fanfare and applause from the community of hardcore car guys and auto enthusiasts. You will bask in the limelight of glowing reviews from the car mags and many blogs and websites around the world.

Life will be good.

Slowly, but surely, the praise will start to fade. Not for any wrongdoing on your part, but the public is a fickle beast. You will still be respected by your hardcore base, but the buying public as a whole might have missed the initial blitz of your arrival. If they had infact glossed over your arrival, chances are they might not consider you at all when they see you for the first time. "Don't you know who I am?" will fall on deaf ears.

Your bretheren in the showroom will not understand you. A life of staring at FWD siblings most of whome lack even performance aspirations will not help to move you into the mainstream. You will always be a niche product, in a niche brand that sadly, is losing ground.

FR-S, enjoy it while it lasts. For as you go, Scion may not. I wish you better success than I, but if not, the Orphan Car Counceling group meets Wednesday nights at Nash's house. We will be there if you need us. Please bring a snack of your choice.

and it's going to take a lot more than moving their rwd "performance" car to the Scion brand to put Toyota under, no matter how disappointing it may be,

I really don't care how they market the car as long as it comes out and performs well. With that being said I have noticed a lack of attention to fit and finish in the Scion line of cars that isn't there in the Toyota line.
