    Default b18a turbo with piston swap question

    ok i have a b18a with a mildly built head, arp hardware all the way through, and 440 cc injectors and lightweight flywheel and stage 3 clutch, i have a all motor b18a and a turbo lsv already but im wanting to tinker with a non vtec turbo build, my question is what piston would be good to run on 10-12lbs itr or gsr? budget build no forged high dollar stuff. i know that the gsr puts lower compression then the itr but would like to try a high compression build. the itrs i think will put me at 10.5:1 lmk if im wrong but i belive thats what the compression would be. i have right at 10:1 comp on my lsv t setup and im running 10 psi so i belive this should work lmk what you think

    uhh if your going turbo then high comp should be out of the question , id look to go 8.5 to 9.0 for turbo , if all motor id look to go higher up to 12.5 to 1 on 93 octane , find out what your comp will be here then go from there , http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...c/compcalc.php

    yeah you can run high compression on turbo builds as long as you dont go to high like 11:1 i searched all the comp calcs and they give different comp ratios so i dont really trust them, mainly im looking to find out if anyone has used these pistons with a set up like this b4 and if not any suggestions on how i should go gsr or itr

    If you are going to use OEM pistons then go with the GSR's. From what we have seen they are stronger then the ITR's/B16's. The ringlands will break on the ITR's. Good luck.

    dont go oem you'll be fine for a few months but trust me ive been through that go ahead and spend money on forged flat top pistons i got wiseco in my car and i love them a new set will set you back about 500 i think but well worth it and you will have no problem with 10-12 psi

    you should be ok with running a mid-compression ratio.. 10:5.1 isn't bad, nor is 10:6.1, i'd stay below 10:8 or so.., but tuning is the key... My gsr with stock internals made 310whp on 10lbs. my wastegate crept to 20psi and made 373whp by mistake, twice while tuning... a month after tuning 1 piston broke a ringland, but consider by all means tuning was not at fault... my pistons and rings had 290,000 miles on them.. before i went turbo, i had a 35shot on it around 270,000 miles, so stock pistons are great if you are a practical driver and not a race fein and beat on it much!!! But I must say EACH motor is different so your motor may or maynot last longer, thats what ppl forget to realize when they give opionions on "stuff" like such... so only way to find out is to do.. im running 10:6.1 compression right now!! lets say I love the compensation of compression ;}. Forged pistons and rods are not a bad, but i see you said a budgeet build, with that said "goodluck and report back man..." ~Ladarius B
