Not true at all. The shape of the pipe, diameter, construction makes a big difference. Look at the password JDM intake, one of the best available because it allows a larger volume of air to be taken into the middle chamber and creates low pressure at the TB so it can take in more air. There is a big difference. Especially when you're talking about an all motor car where gains are harder to come by.
