I know there are not many Saab guys here, but I'm an owner and about to pick up another one (900 SPG or Viggen). The brand is now dead and it really is a sad day in automotive history. The cars never really caught on here mainly because of price and competition, but my car has been great to me and does exactly what it needs to do and never lets me down. I think given a few years under the Koenigsegg group it would have started to flourish. They were talking about making the cars lighter to improve efficiency. How many car makers even consider that as an option today? One of the simplest things, but often overlooked.
I also think at some point the brand will come back, but I don't see them returning to the U.S. market. The technology Saab has is amazing and the new 9-5 along with the Turbo X are two really good cars that under the right marketing group and push could have sold like crazy.
