I always wondered this too. I would think as long as you don't squeel tires at all, that it would be okay.

Yes there is such a violation. You can not accelerate to a point where you make any unnecessary or loud noises, such as high revving engine or screeching tires. This comes to play if you are not doing this for emergency purposes. It falls into a "having control of your vehicle" type clause. If you're burning rubber, you're deemed as not having control of it. It could also be seen as reckless driving.

I understand this ticket can be around $80-100. It can be as much as 4 points on your license as well. Later, QD.

Lust asked the LEO next door and he said "as long as the sped limit is not exceeded, there is no car trying to do the same, and tires are not broke loose"............no law broken. What RPM you shift at is your business.

I got one for "Too fast for conditions" for doing this exact thing. No points on my license just a fine.

It is considered Street Racing under the the clause of exhibition of Speed. I got this wonderful ticket when I was 16.

If the cop wants to they can give you a wreckless driving ticket for doing it, regardless of if you stop at the speed limit or not.

    ...ask me how I know

I was riding with a friend who got a warning for taking off really quick in our boss' V8 Jeep Cherokee, he told him he could actually give him more than one ticket for it but i dont remember the technical names for the violations that he used.

lol. Got that ticket in my Eclipse back in the day...went to court and got it dropped down to too fast for conditions, but the point is cops can write whatever they want

edit: He also wrote me a window tint violation ticket, and out past curfew ticket (I didn't know you had to change that over when you turned 18...lol)

Not true. The LEO probably told you his stance on it. But not the actual law. I just quoted the actual law.

They don't usually consider this street racing unless there is another car involved and they think it is. Other than that, they cite you either reckless driving or excessive acceleration.
