Chris @ Esmeril has an RX-8 running at 490hp and 330ish ft lbs. And that's on a built Renesis. There are 3 rotors and 13b's putting out high torque as well. When put in a light car with a low center of gravity and 50/50 weight distribution, rotaries can perform admirably in racing conditions.
They also make pretty good dragcars...

Sweet all things that can be accomplished with a piston engine. 490hp and 330ftlbs isnt even good when you compare it to honda much less and evo or sti motor. I would take a 3 rotor out of one of the old Kudzu cars but other than that you can keep that garbage

I'd say almost 500hp is pretty good out of a 1.3L motor. Especially in race classes restricted by displacement right? it's hard to find a lighter engine with that much of a usable power band

Name a race class that has a displacement limit and doesn't have an air inlet restrictor.

I really hate the displacement arguement who really cares if its 1.3 liters.

Its light and thats about the only thing good I really have to say about it.

The 1.3L is a bit of a misnomer actually when compared to a standard internal combustion engine. Each rotor face has a displacement of .65L per rotation x 2 rotors = 1.3L per rotation. Now take your .65, and multiple by 6 faces = 3.9L. so by the same way a piston engine is calculated the 13b would actually be a 3.9L engine.

Interesting... I need to do some more homework maybe. I do stand by my statement that light is good, and so that is one thing rotaries do have over their similar piston powered counterparts.

Lots of hostility in this thread though

I own both a Piston & a Rotary powered vehicle. Both have their cons & both have their pros.
