I've heard the I6 is a really solid engine more so than other parts on the jeep. The only thing I've ever heard negative is they like to leak oil.

I remember my friend having one that had over 300k on it and it ran pretty strong, but also leaked oil but wasn't too bad. We used to go crazy in creeks and trails with it.

Everybody gives cars with over 200k a stigma that they are complete shit after that. Yes they can be if they weren't maintained. It's ok to a have if you don't plan on selling it. I actually just talked to him a couple of minutes ago and he said that it crapped out around 34Xxxx. We put that thing through hell.

My uncle has one with almost 300k on it now, it leaks a little oil, but it still runs good.

It's definitely not an engine you have to worry about. Maintain it and watch your seals for oil leaks and it will go as long as you want. Mine blew up at 250k but I beat the living piss out of it constantly so it was understandable. I know several people who are at 300+ running strong with just basic maintenance.

I know you are talking about a 4.0, but I drove an inline 6 the other day and I got a little excited when it kicked the rear end out. Wasnt expecting to be drifting a Cherokee, lol.

My dad has 2, a '89 and a '95, both 4x4. On the '89 it has a sealed cooling system, they have had some minor problems with, '95 hasn't had any though. One thing about the 4.0 cherokee is if the left motor mount goes out the exhaust manifold breaks, we replaced the mount and welded it back....pretty easy fix.( or you can buy the aftermarket manifold with the flex pipe in it for like $300) Other than that he loves them.
