I just read an article on the LFA in car and driver, and I know this car is all the rage and everyone talks about it, but I have to stop to discuss the heart of this beast. The engine.
I would have to say, that this engine is probably (and arguably) one of the best road-going production engines of all time.
The 4.8L V10 revs from its idle to its 9,000 RPM redline in just 0.6 seconds!. Toyota had to use digital instrumentation because an analogue tachometer cannot sweep the mass of the needle fast enough to keep up with the engine, while remaining accurate. Toyota worked with Yamaha's motorcycle team to put superior high RPM motorcycle inspired valve-trains on the V10. They also worked with Toyota's F-1 team to get the engine to produce an F-1 like sound on the road car. The intake features 10 individual throttle bodies inside of a carbon resonating box, and the box has a few thin channels going near the cabin so the driver and passengers can enjoy the 10 ITBs. The car utilizes an acoustically tuned exhaust featuring complex resonating and expansion chambers, the engine has forged internals, and passes Emissions in Japan, Europe, America(even California) all while making 560bhp! This thing is a beast. Sorry if you're tired of hearing about the LFA, but I felt the engine deserved a good bit of highlighting. Quite spectacular indeed.
I mean just listen to the sound!
