Default How much hp at 7lbs on stock GSR could I expect?

I was curious as to how much horsepower to expect from a 95 GSR around 130k miles, stock with a turbo, chipped not tuned at 7 psi?

yeah im planning on it soon. How much does it cost to tune? Right now it is running smooth, if it isnt sputtering should I even get it tuned?

yes, get it tuned...just because it's chipped and appears to be running smooth doesn't mean it's not a little lean or too much or too little timing.

The turbo has been on the car since 04 untuned. maybe 30k miles since installed because it was not a daily driver. I just bought it so hopefully it will last a little while longer until I can get it dyno tuned. Im curious as to why 7 lbs of psi would vary from turbo to turbo. I mean no matted what size turbo is on the car, 7 lbs of psi is 7 lbs. I mean I know some spool faster then others but thats the only difference. Right?

No, the difference in turbos is the actual air VOLUME not pressure. 7psi through a coke straw and 7psi through a piece of 6" pvc pipe.. which is going to be more air??

Yeah I understand that. I guess I thought it measured boost after the turbo but maybe im wrong. After the turbo it would be the same either way since it would be going thru the same size tubing. I really dont know much about it. just trying to learn now

actually........ 7psi at the intake manifold..... is still 7 psi at the intake manifold no matter how you butter your bread.........now.... many oem turbo setups draw signal psi from the turbo housing........ so there are differences because of turbo a/r and intercooler efficiancy.....ans so on

    later QD.

yes 7psi is 7psi but a t25 turbo pushes 750cfm of air at 7 psi
a gt30r pushes 1350cfm at 7 psi. the boost pressure doesn't mean jack

    that makes a huge difference

ok I understand that part of it. BUt Im still having trouble understanding why you need a dyno tune. ISnt that what the maf meter and o2 sensors do, is tell the ecu is its running to rich or lean and compensate time to ajust for that? If thats so then why would it matter if you have boost? I just seen a gsr with a stock engine and head running 9 lbs at 325 whp, it was tuned tho so I dont get why an untuned stock gsr would not have somewhere around 275 whp untuned?

Also the density of the air. It could be 7 psi of 250* F air on a turbo that is tiny and struggling vs 7 psi of 140* F air on a larger turbo that is barely breaking a sweat. You gotta keep them in their efficiency range. That is what the turbo calculator I posted is great for!

gsr use map not maf and the map and o2 do not compensate for rich/lean and make changes. the only compensation the o2 does is during closed loop operation (emmissions) and that is under lighter loads. wot the ecu fuels/times based on what the map shows. stock ecu doesn't even have any boost tables...it stops @ 0" vac. therefore, if you could keep the ecu from freaking out when it sees boost it would keep fueling the same and timing the same for 0" vac all the way up through how much boost you push=lean and boom!

even if you have a chipped ecu that has extended tables for boost would be better, but again, since hondas are map and rpm based it's going to fuel based on load at a particular rpm. a map tuned for a baby turbo is going to need more fuel down low and less up top rpms vs. a large turbo is going to spool differently and need less fuel down low and more up top because it's flowing more cfm up top.

sounds like you're trying to save some $, but doing what you're proposing is going to cost you way more in the long run.

    hope that makes sense.
