    Default boosted b20 or b20V

Ok so i sold my 95 ej coupe with an R swap, now i have a 92 da9 with a b20b swap, and a couple grand in hand.I dont no much about turbo since all the cars i've had have been all motor.my question is how much boost can a stock b20b hold safely and still be a dd.Im in no way building a drag car just something to have fun,it will probably one day see track just to see what it can do.Im lucky that i have a couple of people that have boost knowledge and will guide me,but is it worth it or do a b20 vtec?

Not the expert here by no means, but I'm not sure I would ever choose a B20b for a boost motor. Just of how thin the cylinder walls are. And if I did run boost on a B20, it deff wouldn't be no more than 8 to 10lbs of boost. If you want boost, just do a LS/V or LS and if you want a N/A motor and B20 would be a great candiate. I plan to run a B20b block with a GSR head in my DA9. But I'm a N/A type of guy.

LS/V and B20 aren't that much different, both motors have weak ass rods so I don't see why you say ls/v would be better. You are however correct on the b20 cylinder walls. On stock internals, you should be fine anywhere between 8-10psi TUNED, and not revving the piss out of it. Both motors b18a/b and b20b have low compression so they are both suitable for boost.

N/A wise, they are the same minus displacement. A ls/v NA is pretty much the same as b20/v NA on stock internals. Both need more compression for NA apps. A p72 head and a 2-layer headgasket will help but not by much, vteckidd has a compression ratio sticky in this forum.

BTW, to the O.P. whichever direction you choose, spend the extra $100 or so for ARP rod bolts and head bolts just for a piece of mind.

yes tune tune tune, its a torque monster when compared to other honda motors under a 2.0, but still very low torque numbers compared to other makes, fwd turbo and bad suspension makes you feel like you have torque..lol

yeah i already purchase the head studs, and i know about the thin walls, but thats the motor it came with so ill work with it you know. Here where im at,build a b20v with a type r head and then boost it,but then i would have to re sleeve or stay with the stock walls and just go with 8 pounds of boost

i'd just go b20v. not really one who would boost a b20 though. maybe up the compression just slightly and ride out with a decent tune on it.

    Sell the b20, get a D engine.

Brand name parts are cheap for it and with the right parts you can have about 300 horses of fun.

And if you engine ever blows up it won't be around $700 to replace it.

D-series came from the factory on DC's in Japan, so why not in a DA?

B20 B00sT so much fun.....i actually own a boosted b20 so........8lbs daily drive for a year. no problems other than some over heating issues but they were quickly fixed by means of a 12'' slim fan.
My best advice to you is do what ever you want. Everyone on IA is a fucking expert when it comes to hondas (SIKE) so dont listen to them unless they work at mainstream or batleground or something like that.

PM me if you have questions i would be glad to answer them to the best of my knowledge

I have a friend who boosted a b20 vtec and with a 57trim or 60trim one or the other at 8psi it made 258whp and like 210/220wtq tuned by scotty at mainstream. It later cracked a sleeve at that 8psi also. The sleeves are just to thin for boost. I hear 8-10psi on a smaller turbo is fine but 8-10psi with a bigger turbo is not.

it all depends...i've also had some that were upwards of high 200's low 300's that lasted for 1+yrs.

the b20 definately have weaker sleeves, but 8-10psi tuned should be good.

I did a B20 in 2 diff. civics both with Turbo Spec. kits and they both are still on the road after 2 years.. They are running 8lbs... Its all about the tune and how they are going to be driven... I believe as I always have that a street driven boosted honda needs to be tuned on the conservative side and not for all out power..

i had a 95 hatch running a boosted b20v and i got 20+psi dd with stock internals, head bolts, and tune. now i have a 00 civic that has a b20 that i am planning on boosting without vtec. the thing that kills a b20 is high revs, anything past 7800 and you run the risk of cylinder wall failure, so a good tune and no high revs is key. i like the b20 for boost cause the comp ratio is almost perfect, and the torque makes it a monster imo...
