    Default turbo manifold question (fabrication)

    how well will 16 guage mild steel tubing hold up.....

    if i could find some sch 40 to use id buy that but online im finding good prices on 16 guage.

    It will not hold up well at all. With the exhaust gas temperature that turbo manifolds are exposed to, you can and will see well over the point where the steel will precipitate particles, possibly damaging the turbo. I would not use mild steel at all. I always use SS304 personally.

    I use Sch. 10 Stainless on all of my turbo manifolds. Mild steel just wont hold up to the heat and weight of the turbo. Go with the good stuff and do it right the first time.

    gotcha... im trying to find a company in the a that sells stainless butt weld fittings.....

    thats how alot of people are building some pretty nice manis

    I would personally stay away from 409 stainless as well for the same reasons. Better than mild, but can still have issues on a gasoline turbo motor.

    get it schedule 10 or 40 from ace stainless on line or mcmastercarr.com. it is called butt weld pipe.

    mandrel-bends.com carries everything from aluminum for ic piping to schedule 10 and schedule 40 for manifolds. vband kits turbo flanges everything to customize what you want from mild to wild.
