true, but numbers would have caused a whole big fun argument. what was done to the '00 GT?

I don't care what the damn poll says. The discussion came up when we were in my car and took a turn. I'm 110% sure I would win on any track... autcross is another story but would still be interesting.

We will revive the thread next year with results...

no need to take the bet i know i drop it if i pushed through turn 1. but that whole self preservation thing comes up. but i still call BS on the 1:09 1:10 in a otherwise stock 00 GT mustang. when ive seen modified 996 TT run 1:08s. was this on the old track or the new track?

yeah because the brakes on the mustang are ment for road racing. i know the cobra brakes dont last at all at little tally... like maybe 5 mins a spirited driving. let alone all out. and the GT brakes are smaller...sooo lol

Listen JR I've got no dog in this fight so theres no need to call BS....If I said I ran that time then I did. There are plenty of people that have seen me run sub 1:05 and a lot of people on this board saw me run a 1:05 in Dougs STI. I know Little Tally inside out and Backwards and if all someone in a 996tt can run is a 1:08 then they suck and thats all there is to it. When I ran that time in Dougs STI all it had done was a stage 2 flash and some coilovers. If it had of been my car I could have gotten it into the 1:04s. I don't play around and occasionally go to the track like a lot of people here....I basically live there.

As far as brakes go, they only have to be good for one lap.

Handle, as in slalom speed, lateral grip, steering feel, neutral balance? S2000. Fastest around a track? Cobra, it has a huge power difference and its handling isn't bad,. But the question was "handle better", not "win in a race".

dont forget 285's. You made double the power and a lot more tire and were only 3 seconds faster. 285>225 anyday

I would put my money on the cobra, I just sold my 04 cobra 8 months ago and they DO handle ALOT better than what people give them credit for. Plus the extra power it has over the s2k would just be to much for the s2k, and thats assuming that the cobra isnt pullied. Its hard to find a Terminator with the stock blower pulley now-a-days!

Depends on the track, and the length of the straights. In the turns the S2K should kill the cobra because of it's 50/50 weight distribution. We had a new Mustang GT at one of our S2000 track days, and it couldn't even hang with stock miatas. Not even close. I realize there is a little HP in the GT and Cobra, but HP is not everything. You have to think about HP to weight ratio.

LOL, thats what I was thinking! you really cant even compare the two as far as power goes. that cobra is no joke, i dont know why alot of these honda fanboys be sleeping on that ish. cobra > s2k all day.

weight distribution means nothing. and your new mustang GT driver was new to the car. you cant compare vehicles with different drivers. unless you compare the vehicle and the driver.

seeing as a s2k has a 50/50 and a 04 cobra has 53/47 and the new mustang has also 50/50. weight distribution is null in this argument.

53/47 is not as close to 50/50 as it looks on paper. That said, cobra would win on most tracks.

my G is 53/47 350z are 53/47. they handle just fine. many performance cars are slight nose heavy to help in braking and turning. and when they accelerate weight transfers to the rear getting it to the 50/50 that everyone craves.

I'm not saying that front-biased can't handle, but really most performance cars try to have 50/50 with even higher performance cars leaning more towards 40/60 ish. You just don't want too much weight on the front when diving in to a turn, unless you like understeering.
