    Default TUNING for a 96 lt1

Ive got a 1996 firebird 5.7 6 speed with a lil cam headers exhaust MAF and a AIR system/ Cat converter removal and its a lil on the weak side and desiels when turning it off.
Im positive it needs tuned. who and where guys/girls?

If you want to play with it yourself, just get the HPtuners.

My dad said he remembers one of the cooling fans being hard wired (not going through a relay) and that's the reason it's dieseling... just locate the wire and run it back like factory. Worst case scenario, it's just a bad fan relay

As far as it being weak, BEFORE the full tune up that lsvtec20 did, it stayed dead even with a LS1 SS camaro from like a 30 or 40 roll

and where the heck is that wire at? i just looked and see nada.. i must be blind. or it could be the fact that they fit a 5.7 in the space a 2.0 shouldnt fit haha

I know the MAF, EGR, plus, and opti were replaced (or so he told me when we met up to look at wheels. he's always been honest with me, and frankly, no reason to lie as I wasn't looking to buy the car) so maybe it just needs to be cleared? If it's misfiring, it might just be the cap and plug wires. I'm not sure. But like I said, it stayed even with my buddy's car, that has ran a 13.41 spinning, from like 35-75 or so...

yeah i cleared them last night before i went home n this morning the emission control system failures were back on but not the MAF or missfire.. i think the MAF was sucking too much air because the airbox was not tightened on to the front of it.

i dont think a tune will help you with CEL's you just got a car thats been rode hard as hell before you. i would take it to a good shop and have them go through it and make sure its right.
i had a 94 formula with a lt1 great car if i were you i would put a cat on it or a high flow one cause honestly there is really no gain from removing it on those cars just more headache than anything else.

also if your maf acts up again try taking it off and gently wiping off the sensor in the middle i had a k&n on mine and some of the oil got on it and threw it off big time it bogged and ran like crap.

and make sure who ever replaced the opti spark knew how to do it if any moisture gets in there it will screw up. i would also check for wires laying on the exaust.but get a good tech to give it a top to bottom inspection those are great cars i just hate the opti spark set up.

Usually I know on older cars, the dieseling ur talking about when u turn it off, is because the timing is to advanced, I'd check it to make sure....

PS: Are u the one who got the black one?

The LS1 will out run the LT1 with the mods u listed, on top end anyways......you need a bigger cam and a set of heads if you wanna make power. The LT1 makes awesome TQ and makes it early, but the HP drops off too soon, you just need more mods.

here ya go, they charge flat rate tuning and use LT1 edit.

HPT does not support LT1's unfortunately. Your problem does sound more spark/timing/ECU related, def check the opti and go from there. My friends car was doing something similar and it ended up being a clogged CAT fwiw. I have a MAF from my 01 if you need a new one, I'd imagine it might be bigger and you'd need a retune. I also think I have an old MAF-T laying around somewhere...

and i found out why its desieling, the fans are hard wired and it continues power to the ignition. that will be fixed soon. but im still looking for a tune

Check out the mods I had, those will get you lower to mid 300's.
If you change the opti. only use a GM unit, and its a good idea to do the water pump also.

    Might help too www.z28.com

From what I understand, the stock MAF and stock Intake manifold are good for 400ish HP. I didn't have a cat on mine and had no problems. I put down 250 to the wheels at mainstream with just headers, intake and flowmaster (catless). Thats about average for a bolt on LT1, was looking for 75ish HP from the other mods.

MAF-T's are under $200 new and are the cheapest easiest way to tune it yourself. They are limited though as they only increase/decrease by percentages and really are just tricking the PCM. LMK if you want to try mine out, its been sitting in my garage for 3 years. It sounds like your issue now is the cam + non-calibrated maf, as in you fixed all the codes? Have you tried Vengeance? Is your car an A4 or M6? 13mpg is bad but in an A4 in the city you'll only get about 15-17 with those mods. I usually get 16 city and 23-24hwy, M6 with 400+hp.

Yea, you should be getting alot better than 13. Call up some local places with dyno's that can tune it and just see what they'll charge. Vengeance is in Atlanta and Ron has been tuning and messing with GM vehicles for a long time. As long as everything is functioning right it shouldnt take someone like him more than 2-3 hours to tune it. Of course it'll cost the same as buying LT1 edit and doing it yourself.
