    Default NOOB here. t25 turbo?

    Ok so i picked up this Garrett t25 turbo and im having trouble finding out which engine it was from. and which parts i need exactly and where i can get them.

    ^^^ i need to know where i can get the 3 bolt piping

    ^^^ i need to know what size fitting i need for the water(???)**and does it matter which way the water flows through the turbo** and the 2bolt oil fitting thing. If anyone can point me in the right direction on where to get these parts, or if anyone has extra for sale or something it would be greatly appreciated.




    all the turbos that look familiarly close end up having a 2bolt thing where the filter would go,, i guess?

    CLIFF NOTES:
    -What turbo is this?
    -What size are the water fitting thing/ Where can i get them/Does it matter which way water is flowing through it?
    -Where do i get the 3bolt piping(?)

    new to this, so reps for help!!!

    Here is the three bolt outlet you need, it even comes with a vacuum source nipple -

    It looks to be a standard T25 turbo. However, since it is water and oil cooled it may be a BB unit. That is a standard T3 turbine housing. You will need a T3 manifold and you can buy the exhaust flange (if they don't make an aftermarket T3 downpipe for your car) from ATP turbo as well to make a downpipe for your car. If it were me, I would take each housing off and measure the inducer and exducer of each wheel (in mm), to get a better idea of what type and size turbo you have. You can read on Garrett's website to get a better idea of what I am talking about and how to do this. Or you could just do the measurements, and call them and tell them what they are, and they can tell you what exact turbo you have.

    Another thing, be sure to rotate the CHRA (center house rotating assembly, the thing with the holes in between the housings) around so the oil return hole (diamond shaped flange/hole) is facing downward when you bolt the turbo to your car. This is so the oil will be able to return to your oil pan and drain out of the turbo efficiently and correctly.

    You can buy the oil and water fittings and lines from ATP you need as well. Just do some research on their website. They will have what you need, as they specialize in Garrett turbos.

    you can google search the serial number on the tag on the center section. that will tell you exactly what center it is. I would also say that it looks like it is a T25 frame turbo not a T3. the water fitting should be either a 12x1.25 or a 14x1.25 thread. The three bolt flange is prob. going to be a little tricky. Try a DSM "J" pipe, that might be the right bolt pattern and size. As for the oil return flange, we have some here that are correct. You can get them from Precision Turbo directly but they can be a bit pricey. If you wanted to bring it by the shop we would be happy to take a look at it and tell you exactly what it is or what you need.

    Really? I think that the T25 inlet has a more round hole. T3 more of a rectangular shape, and T4 more of a square shaped hole. But yeah check the ID number and that will better tell you what it is. And no, a DSM J-pipe will not work. They all have a diamond two-bolt flange, not three. You could, however, cut and weld a DSM J-pipe to a three-bolt outlet flange.

    you really dont need to use the water fitting on the turbo i ran one for a long time with out one (t25) on a past junkyard turbo build i did.
    but i do remeber buying fittings for it i went to homedepot with the turbo in hand and went to the plumbing section and i found what i needed but i never used them haha. good luck with the t25 those are great turbos for stock motors with a little boost the boost is almost instant and holds pretty well your gonna enjoy it im sure.

    It is true that unless it is BB (which I dont think it is) it doesn't need to be watercooled. I sealed off my water passageway holes. I'm running a journal bearing turbo now that didn't even come with provisions for watercooling. In that first picture, the nipple in the middle of the turbo is the oil inlet, and on the other side, in the second pic is the oil outlet. Since it is garrett you're going to need a garrett Oil return line. I got mine from Forced performance ( http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...e=Acc-OilLines ) BUT someone said that is a T2, and forced performance only sells DSM flanged and garrett t3/t4 flanged oil return so I am not sure if it will work. Looks like it will In my opinion though.

    EDIT: I dont know what car that turbo is going on, but the flange on YOU'RE oil pan may not be the same as what Forced Performance sells in there oil return lines.

    Water-cooling helps prevent oil coking after shut-down. Garrett uses it to extend their turbos life. Needed... I think so. Necessary, no.

    I think so. Fuel pump has gone bad, gotta order a new 255 Walboro. I'm pretty sure it was the source of all my problems. Shorting everything out as soon as I turned the key on.

    j0nbunklah0m just left. Hooked him up with the adapter flange and an exhaust gasket. It's a T-28 turbo after seeing it in person BTW.

    you can go up to summit racing and i beileive the fittings are 14x1.25 and you can go to summit racing and get them and if you take the turbo with you they can find the fitting. and if you hold the turbo where the exhaust side is up then the water in is on the back side of the turbo opposite side of where the wastgate is and the water out is the side where the wastegate is

    That would be a 3 bolt 'outlet', not inlet. Yes, water-cooling is a good tool to have in a turbo, but as stated before it is not necessary. There are BB turbos that are only oil-cooled as well. Turbonetics and Comp turbos are two examples. The just make their center cartriages out of a newer ceramic material. It better withstands heat than what most turbo BB center cartriages are made out of. They do not need to be water-cooled as well. I guess it is all what the turbo company prefers in turbo design.

    QUESTION: how exactly am i suppose to send the pressurized oil to the turbo w/out using the oil filter sandwich adapter? this t28 is going on a b-series motor

    there is a oil passage plug on the under side of the Distributor. You can put in a 1/8th BSP to -3 or -4 fitting depending on what size line you are running.

    another question: does the wastegate need to be connected to a vacuum source? or can it be unplugged? I've seen some people leave it unplugged, so i assume that it will just run off of the stock 7psi?

    leave it unplugged and it'll boost until it hits 88mph then it will dissappear.

    you have to hook the vac up to the wastegate, people who leave it unplugged probably have an external wastegate

    what kind of manifold are you going to use, because almost all of the aftermarket turbo manifolds have external wastegate flanges, and if you're going to use the one built onto the turbo then you'll need a blockoff flange off of ebay, either way its cheap enough to get a knockoff 35mm wastegate which work fine on budget builds

    I am sorry, but you bought a turbo not knowing what it is form, then know nothing about turbo system, and trying to turbo your car without knowing anything about your engine.

    How do I get my oil system to run to the turbo? Do I need to do something to the wastegate?

    You are better off just selling the turbo, do some research and try it again.

    BTW, you do not just block off the wastegate, you either use it to save some money, or get a shop to weld it shut if you want to use a external wastegate setup(you do not want it open on its own during WOT).

    hey man thats a decent turbo....... for your outlet question have you heard of the aluminum 90's that turbonetics sells..... they are 90 degrees that also adapt to different intercooler piping sizes..... they make for real life savers when your

    a) trying to clock the turbo perfectly so the factory wastegate actuators line up.

    b) get just the right angle for you intercooler piping

    c) not exacty trying to give off the "im bolting up various other oem parts to make a turbo kit" look..... naw mean??

    on my integra i had my t4 pointing down and had a real problem with couplers wearing out and poping off.... when i got the weld on elbow my problems were solved.


    just thought it might help....

    the part im talking about welds on to the compressor housing.... your prolly have to cut off the 3 bolt flange but..... thats shits gay anyway.... right

    as for oil just get a oil sandwich they work great and plus they taste awesome
