Ok, I give up with you.

There is a difference in READING, UNDERSTANDING, and TAKING OUT OF CONTEXT.

Modding to YOUR liking, or MODDING to SOMEONE ELSES LIKING is what it comes down to...which is pretty sure where the OP is going. OP, please correct me if I am wrong.

    airmax- you were spot on

nissantuner- dude, stfu. if you would have red my original post correctly you would understand where my post as well as every other post in this thread came from. i know i drive a fucking integra. no shit sherlock, why do i drive it because back when i bought this car in 05 it was the one i liked the most. i am not being a hypocrite? where the fuck did you get that mindset? please do tell. i even specifically stated in my OP that i at one point wanted a bomex kit but didnt get it at the time because it was to expensive, so what did i do then? went for something else that i PERSONALLY liked, a lip kit. still looked nice, still was to my own tastes. now if your going to sit here an fucking call mea hypocrite you can seriously go kill yourself. Like mike said, i am not one to fucking roll up into a parking lot thinking my car is the shit becasue it has gold wheels and a OEM optional lip kit. i roll up in a parking lot to guess what, ROLL UP. peoples thoughts and opinions on my car are the last thing on my mind, the simple and clean look is the look i go for. get the fuck over yourself.

i dont think its that people mod for other people. its just hey are afraid of being criticized , and i dont blame them honestly. With the amount of blind hate on IA..its no surprise that its gotten like this. Nothing wrong with an opinion, but some things can be withheld, especially when you know you wouldnt say any of that to the owners face..

Yeah, no one has the balls to slam someone in public. Not sure if its fear, or some form of courtesy. The V meet would be a brawl

    thats a big reason.....

Another reason is that it is easier to be/sounds cool/respectable online since you're hiding behind a guise of anonymity. Thus, when someone says something, without even knowing who said it they can command a following since they are so popular with rep points lol when in fact, IRL they're prob a loser who you would not want to be like at all!

I modded my STi according to what I wanted. I would likely get picked on by a lot of subaru guys for going with a big, laggy turbo and knock-off wheels and removing the wing and putting a big heavy stereo in...etc. Fact is, at the end of the day I make the payment, so I have the ability to do whatever I feel like to my car. Same goes for the civic I'm building, yes it has all been done 1000 times over, but I have always wanted a nice and simple K20 EK, so that's exactly what I'm building. I could care less if anybody says they don't like my cars, that's their problem. I don't see a problem with the "scene" (if you can even call it that anymore) I see a problem with the people. Me personally I always go for performance first, looks secondary. ALWAYS. However I really can't knock somebody for the whole LV interior, stanced civic with wheels that stick out and such because, while it may not be what I personally like, it isn't my problem. I DO have a problem with the kid who has that civic and wants to give me shit because my car has wheel gap on some Drag's. I bought my wheels for their width. I put all the money I had leftover into the best tires I could possibly afford.

Oh and Nissantun3r- you're still obviously an idiot who is just here to try to pick fights. The OP wasn't saying anything about his car at all, he was simply stating what he thought about the trends that he has seen lately. Who are you to call him a hypocrite for not "doing anything for the scene" when you yourself are the exact kind of person who ruins shit for everyone else? You drive a stock Maxima, yet want to bitch at other people and put them down? That is laughable at best, let us know when YOU do ANYTHING that can be considered part of the "scene" at ALL. Til' then feel free to go fuck a cactus bareback.

    1) You have no idea what kind of person I am. If you have any intelligence at all you would know ppl's internet personas do not imitate ourselves IRL.

What have I ruined for anyone?

And what do I do that helps the scene? I rev my fucking engine @ everyone that pulls up to me at a redlight...try me

oh excuse me i didn't mean to strike a nerve there cupcake. Oh and generally people DO act as themselves online because they have the common sense to realize that it is the only way a lot of people they have never met in person have to figure out what they are like. I would rather portray myself on here like I really am instead of coming off like a poser when somebody meets me IRL.

BTW, I would not be surprised in the least if you really do that. You don't have to lie to make friends.

lol Nah I think everyone comes off differently online than IRL, whether intentionally or unintentionally. But that's another debate..It's not a matter of posing to be something else...atleast for me it isn't

And you didn't strike a nerve. Everything that happens on IA stays, it's not a big deal and I don't take it too seriously...

I personally find it humorous that the people who are into motorsports and drive RWD cars frequently are sticking up for fwd and the guy with a fwd sedan is discussing how unworthy of performance it is.

Regardless of drivetrain setup - FWD, RWD, AWD, etc. - any car can be made to be fast. But everyone is so afraid of doing anything different that they end up with Hondas and the same modifications. Those that truly care about performance aren't the ones making threads about their freshly sharpied fender or finish panel. While a good portion of why people end up with Hondas is the bandwagon movement, there are legit reasons why people pick them to modify in the first place. I agree with blacknightteg - so what if his car looks the same as others out there? Its his car to do with what he wants. But I bet if he posted a picture thread about it right now there would be a dozen people telling him to lower it more and do numerous other things.

One of the drivers of our endurance races drove Vipers when he wasn't in the Del Slo's. I never heard him once complain about the race cars 200+ whp FWD drivetrain when he's used to driving 500+hp RWD's. Grip racing is racing. It's a competition, door to door, doesn't matter FWD or RWD. It's still running flat out 9k RPM's for 13 hours straight.

knock off parts isnt the problem. The only problem i see the knock off parts doing is making trends easier to follow.

Lets say some $5000 wheel i popular. Well not everyone is going to be able to afford that wheel. But lets say Rota makes the same wheel for $500. Bam, instantly 700000 people have the same wheel.

Sure that can cause a problem when it comes to originality and how long that looks stays "fresh" but if anything it should push the guys at the top to strive to find new ways to do stuff differently.

Why should the guys at the top do anything? They didn't make any money off those 700000 sets of Rota's. There is no defending knock-offs. Had they made the money off of all those wheels then yeah, they could probably drop their prices a little and have more designs because of a bigger budget. Thats why the nicest wheels are so expensive though, because not too many people buy them.

Had they spent $100+ on a design patent that protects the ornamental design of an object then nobody could legally duplicate it or import it. Automobile manufacturers have been putting patents on their wheels and wheel covers for decades.

knock offs are just aternatives for people who cant go and rip their nuts off just for one part. i dont see the harm in having something thats a copy. as long as the person doesnt project it to be something that its not.

x2...this is a great statement. If anything, this is what keeps the scene going. maybe 20% of the people can afford name brand everything...the other 80% of us have to rely on a replica part because were doin this with spare money we have saved for months....I know i have wayyyy more imporant things to pay for in my life than wasting everything i have on spoon, work, mugen, etc. My KiddRacing header makes me very happy and i most certainly didn't brake the bank on that one.

I'll admit I still like the "jdm look" but I'm not following anybody and I'm not a poser.

Alot of cars are gonna look similar b/c there's only a certain different # combo's of exterior candy (meaning, there might be a car out there similar to mine but not exact)

and the world we live in with all this internets, it makes it alot easier for ppl to bite other ppls style.

I build my cars the way I want it and I don't follow a crowd..

I take the most pride in doing the small things to my car that add character and uniqueness

Drive a race car on the street, it's like driving with a naked blonde on your roof.

It will come when people stop being coward ass sheep and grow some nuts. I get so tired of people bagging on originality. They should just state the truth and admit they don't have the sack to stand on their own. That is why I drive cars that they can't pronounce let alone find or drive. fuck a crowd. I'm in the scene strictly for the love of cars and meeting different but cool people with cool ideas.

Without knockoffs, there would b no competition, resulting n high prices staying high, the "authentic" companies would create a monopoly and there would b nothing you can do about it. Its called Capitalism, and without it, there wouldnt b enough ppl involved to call this a scene b/c everything would b 2 expensive. Though "knockoffs" r "knockoffs", they give everyone the chance to express themselves thru their vehicles. And some "knocksoff" work just as good as the brand name...sometimes ALL u r paying for is a brand name. So "authentic" isnt always the best choice either. And the scene is becoming dull b/c ppl r afraid of being labeled as ricers.

I dont even know how to comment on this thread...true customization is not dead, its just dead on IA. Its all pretty much been stated. Just build whatever you want and dont give a fuck what anyone else things. Thats what I do...hell the Passat had $40k+ aftermarket, a car that is usually driven by soccer moms.
