afsil makes good points, he agrees in the sense sports cars must have 2 doors, rwd, although I think having backseats still meets the guidelines, but everyone has a different perspective.

But I started this thread because I noticed nissan is the only japanese auto maker to still make a sports car in the usa...correct me if I'm mistaken...the 370z

Toyota needs to reinvent the supra, honda the nsx, maxda the rx7

The 370Z is manufactured in Japan.
Did you mean sold in the USA?

And the Miata. It'll be hard for you to convince me that the miata isn't asports car. It's based off of the the old Triumph, Lotus, and MG sports cars, it's a sporty roadster, it's got an FR layout, it's the number one most sold 2 seater of all time, it dominates at autocrosses, it's affordable, light, well balanced, zippy, and soon (apparently) there will be a coupe variant in 2012. Sure it's not a purebread track racer, but it's definitely one of the best budget sports cars of all time and the fact that it draws all its inspiration from roadsters that dominated British motorsports shows where it's true heart lies.

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

But it's soooo damn slow! No power! Maybe if this were still the 60's or 70's, it would fly as a sports car, but it just doesn't have any balls to keep up with today's sports cars.

Another thing I really didn't want to delve into very much was COST. Sports cars are an elite item. They aren't supposed to be for everyone to buy! Cheap performance is often times one of two things: Awful quality or slow.
