As for what you should do. If your hp goal is 180hp, your cheapest route would be a boosted single cam. To get 180hp N/A, you looking at atleast $5000 since you would need a hella built d-series or a 1.8L dohc vtec motor with some bolt-ons, valvetrain, and good tuning.

If you boost your current motor (assuming its in good condition and you do a mpfi swap) you could easily achieve your goal for less that $3k (using new parts) or even much cheap if you buy used parts or an ebay turbo kit (which I personally wouldn't recommend). If you don't boost more than 8lbs you are good. Next, I would recommend building a d16a6 block using tuner toy rods and vitara pistons. Then you can safely up the boost and those rod and pistons are relatively cheap.
