    Default Boosting a b20?

I am wondering if it is a good thing to do. i am in the market to swap my engine out and ive narrowed down my options to either getting another ls and boosting it or getting a b20 and boosting it. now this is my daily, so im not wanting much power. i would like to do a b20 if i can. but i have heard mixed reviews on doing it. so if you have done it before, please let me know your opinion!

    good luck with that

when i got B20b they had no Zs but that was awhile ago.

if your planning to boost anyway just get the b20b it has lower compression then the Z like the Z is like 9.2 or some along that line, anf the B is 8.8

well either what B20 ftw i love mine....
BTW what tranny are you planning to run????

b20 have thin sleeves just to let you know.

LS is better for boost but its your decision in the end.

Boost is fun..............................Just be ready to spend some $$$$ on a good tune

i have been talking to people and i think i may go with a b16. either that or a gsr. i am going to have to look for a kit that i can get. i dont want a lot of power so i dont want some mad crazy custom kit thats gunna cost me like 3 thousand dollars.

I just upgraded from a LS w/gsr tranny in a Hatch to a 98 civic coupe with a turbo GSR and it is so much fun. But I will miss the low end torque that is in the LS.

If you can wait and save a turbo GSR will put smiles on ur face

Yea b20 has thin walls...that doesnt mean it cant safely handle some boost. You just gotta be aware of what your doing, and dont go boostin like 20 lbs on stock b20 bottom end.

na i definetly wont be doing that. its my daily driver and the majority of my driving is either highway back and forth two days a week or to work. so it would be low always. i have no intention of doing anything crazy. if i do more research and find out it might not be a good idea to do it. then ill probably just buy a new ls long block and boost it.

You should talk to BoostedB20 (??? i think thats his SN) but he has a b20 on boost in a hatch. He sounds like he know his shit and plus hes rockin the build you want. Ill try to find the thread he made on his hatch and ill get back to you....

B20B4 on 8psi = 258whp! 8.41 1/8 mile times and is still a running engine. i swapped for an ls vtec for higher boost. they have thin cylinder walls so for lower compression and reliability with boost use a b20b4. if going na b20z for the higher compression. also since there not that high get some arp rod bolts for the added force of the heavier 84mm pistons and be sure to notch the intake valve pockets if using vtec head. i have a b20 b4 with a small crack in #1 sleeve still runs great on 8psi when i pulled out, but with 4 new pistons already notched and arp rod bolts cheap.if you need any parts pm me.

lol. i wont. i really want to do a b20, but i just dont want any problems. keep in mind this will be my daily driver, it will not be raced or anything of that nature. atleast not until i can get another daily driver. so the least amount of wear and tear possible is better. i will want to boost it, regardless of what engine i get. i just need to make sure that if i stay stock internal wise, i will be ok. cause i dont plan on doing anything to the internals, atleast not anytime soon.

dont worry daniel, i wont. lol. if anything a gsr head will go on it. but i doubt that to.

If your on a budget the b18b(230whp=reliable), but if you have a lil extra cash get a b18c(260whp=reliable). Get it tuned.

i was just saying that with a good tune you would be ok with stock internals... and i dd'ed mine...staying with stock internals makes the build cheaper, and the tune made ir reliable

Broseph? Why not boost the ls engine at 8-9psi and leave it that way if it floats your boat for a quick reliable daily driver? If you aint diggin it throw the b20b in and go get it retuned........

just remember the b20 sleeves are weak and have a higher chance of cracking.

boosting, i'd go ls waaaay before b20.
    all motor, b20 before ls.
