Have any 240 owners kept and boosted their ka24de, I'm between a rock and a hard place, the first big question is ka24 or sr20? if i work with a ka24 I want to boost it but I want to run 20lbs. I just want some thoughts and opinions on what to do.

KA-T > Sr20.
I'm not a Nissan queer, I'm a Honda boylol
KA blocks are tough. It should be able to handle that. And think of all the money you're saving by keeping your KA! Besides SR20's stock turbos turn into hair dryers after 15psi.
thanks
to me the black top sr20 is so costly b/c its popular

I see noob. Why 20lbs of boost? There are a ton of ka-t's out there already btw.Originally Posted by blumagic04

i heard the KA has weak rods and i dont think either of those engines will handle 20lbs stock
TOO BIG
iirc 13 is max psi on ka internals. however. i also heard, take a stock ka and bolt on sr turbo, 370 injectors, and fmic and you have more pwr nd torque than the sr... nd you spent like... 3-400 lol. but 20 psi... you need forged rods nd pistons... u can get cp pistons, eagle rods, rings, lockers, etc for $900 good for 650hp...i say ka-t
IF you would like to no what a ka24de-t feels like i can take you for a rideOH AND KA-T>SR20 BECAUSE ITS MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!
I check sluts off my list like a maintnence man
I drive a low is3 just so it gives me a reason to drive super slow on these rough ga roads.
if u plan on running 20lbs of boost on ka u better build the motor or u are going to be buying alot of motors n the future... LOL

ka's take forced induction real well..jus build a stronger motor and then boost it..thas y im keepin my 99 altima VVVHotttt

the ka puts down alot of torque 2 more than the sr thats for sure, even on the same boost levels.

ka-t.org
nicoclub.comDo some research.
A healthy stock ka24de can handle up to 350rwhp, but i wouldnt go past that unless you get forged rods/pistons.

I like to check it out. Is it in a hatch or coupe?Originally Posted by stay_up

i have a stock ka24de about 80000 miles with minor shit like a header and intake..hows that for clean start for a turbo build...the downside..it has aauto transmission..I was wonderign how Automatic turbo ka's perform im not sure how many r out there..im lookin to get around 230 250 whp nothin more..cuz i think ill be happy with that
whatever you do.... Get a good ems.... NO afc hack, no bs pretuned ecu. Get somethin like NIStune, or BIKIrom, or even a mega squirt. Every KA that i've seen blow up, does so because of improper tuning.
what is alse this garbage about running X psi? that is nonsense.
a small turbo making 10psi will make nowhere near the power a big turbo does at less psi. if he wants to run 20 psi on a baby turbo i dont see why its not possible. but 20psi on a t4.....now that would be crazy.
instead shoot for a power goal, then choose a turbo based on that. no sense in getting an enormous turbo to only run 6-7 pounds of boost. it will take forever to spool. get a smaller turbo to make more boost=less lag FTW
PS ka24t>sr20.
more torque![]()
how well do Ka's perform with a turbo and automatic transmission...im lookin to get about 250 whp
Listen to Bruce, He knows what up.
BTW CA20DET>KA24DET

KA's done properly are stout. 20psi is putting you over 440whp if done right so you don't need that much. A 3071 is a good match to a KA and spools lightning fast. Get a good set of cams, build the motor properly and tune it properly and you're singing. I've built several SR's and KA's for customers and I'll tell you if you want over about 260whp reliably on a KA you need to build it, it will hold it but not for long. Built properly you can run about 430whp easily on 93 octane. Dollar for dollar you're better off with a KA or an LS1/LS2. When you get around 400whp you will have to build either an SR or KA and get all the turbo stuff, ECU, and such. You can drop an LS2 in for about the same amount of money, have 400whp, and it will last longer.

20 psi through what? 2871R? 35R? 42R?
Running 'such and such' boost is such a relative term. The goal you need to figure out and answer first is HOW MUCH POWER ARE YOU SHOOTING FOR. Once you can come up with that answer, deciding between an SR20 or KA-T will fall into place, as well as what the build should consist of, and what turbo to select.
Ryan posted some good info.
And for Christ's sake, don't do like most 240 owners do. Get a true EMS for your setup. Don't skimp out on the one thing that will keep your motor in sync.

how much power are you looking for? what kind of events are you trying to attempt? KA's need a good rebuild and tuning is important no matter what kind of motor. Make sure to get a place that experiences with a lot of 240's such as Lethal Injection,Mainstream,Top Speed,Tiger, and Balance
for 900 bucks? When did 900 bucks buy 650hp? wtfOriginally Posted by jonathanjone

Brandon at Batlground has got a pretty sick KA making plenty of power. I'm not sure the numbers are public knowledge but if you stop by he will talk about it. I had a 97 with a built KA a GT30R and a AEM and it made over 400hp at 18lbs through a quiet 2.5 inch exhaust. Most of that work was done at BG or by me.
I've had both a KA and a SR with over 400hp and I wouldn't even think of building another SR it cost me 3 times the amount of money to make the same power.

i enjoy the sr. i trust it. i don't trust ka's they always blow up. for many reasons. mostly the tuning. but also because most Americans don't take care of their cars. they also have super long rods.
just do it right if your gonna do it
