First of all, I was talking about the 90% of this entire site driving a honda motor Co. car, 70%of which aren't driving the top end Si, Type R, S2000, or other "sporty Hondas". Secondly, the CIVIC ACCORD AND INTREGRA weren't ever designed from the bare chassis to be a sports car, the manufacturer just pours oodles of their high dollar research and development into their everyday econoboxes to come up with the Type R projects. They didn't build the Civic from scratch thinking "This chassis needs to be perfectly balanced with as little weight as possible and the highest technology braking and suspension we can afford to put in." No they're thinking "How can we make this as cheap as possible without feeling so cheap that o one likes it?" Then LATER as an AFTERTHOUGHT, Honda goes "Ya know, if we sell a few of them with engines that we develop with our F1 technology, beef up the suspension a little, and move some shit around to try and balance the car out a bit better, I bet we can impress the sports crowd a bit." As apposed to the Rx-7, Supra, Corvette, etc. which where they are designed from the very beginning on a drawing board to production to appeal to enthusiasts. This is the reason these cars have "soul" something you'll often hear about on top Gear when Jeremy drives a Ferrari.
Why can't everyone just be ok with the fact I hate Hondas? They always have to throw around the S2000 and NSX and The Type R cars. Of course there are always exceptions, but not everyone on this site is rocking a Type R.
P.S. If it weren't for the Mazda Rx-7, the Type R project wouldn't have even started. Honda Built the NSX in 1991 and raced it against the Evo, the GTR, the current Supra, and the FC chassis Rx-7 in determination that their new $90,000 car would be the fastest amungst all the current Japanese sports cars. It won, in 93when the FD came out, Honda did it again, the NSX came second only to the FD. Honda was pisssed because the FD cost 1/3 as much, so they decided to build the first Type R ever, the NSX Type R, JUST to beat the Rx-7s lap time, which they barely did by .2 seconds. Go look itup in the Type R history video.
I'm not going to touch on the Del Sol challenge because one car is irrelevant. Also that Del Sol wouldn't have ever existed if ti weren't for the success of the Mazda Miata that Honda wanted in on, only the Miata is the best selling 2 seater car of all time, the del Sol, is out of production.
