Its all personal taste. If someone desires to put a tow hook on because they think it looks good then so be it.
Some people might think it looks bad but as long as the person who did it likes it then where is the problem.
I personally think people who primer their cars, with or without clear over it, then presume to drive it because they are too poor to go ahead and paint it are retarded because THAT looks like shit too.

What makes you so sure about whether or not that person is too poor? What do you know about the person that you are making assumptions about?

I'm pretty sure you're referring to me since I started this thread and I'm riding in a primed car. And if you're directing an "attack" towards me, I must have hurt your feelings with this thread. And since my thread is about tow hooks and you're in here with feelings, I can assume you have one? For looks?

Also, if you re-read the initial post, you'll notice that I just asked. I never bashed anyone. I just asked if there was an advantage to it or what the reason was. Damn that guilty conscience, huh? Try again when you actually have something. Later, QD.

Hmmmm. I don't need anyone to help me decide. I never said anything about gay. I just wondered why people put tow hooks on the wrong end of a car or why they put them on there at all. Later, QD.

idk if anyone else said it because i got tired of the "jdm is ghey" posts, but the truth of the matter is...

ALMOST everything that is considered "JDM", by most people, started out with "race" mentality... racing seats, hood prop (for engine clearance on a swap or something), cooling plates, lighter wheels, carbon fiber, blablabla. this is just another one of those things that we get and won't ever use but has race purposes. it's purpose is undeniably to easily move a car around the track after a wreck of some sort. the odds of getting a friggin hook under a low ass race car is basically impossible. there should be no more mystery... it is def. a fan boy accessory, or trend, like almost anything else we do to our cars. these things start out with a purpose and then some company makes them different colors and then we americans with hondas buy them up like candy.

i love every fucking thing JDM. even the tow hooks. so i am posting this from a completely humble stand point so you know it's good stuff

    Finally. An honest answer. Thanks.

I just think that some fanboy things look ok and can serve some sort of purpose. Like racing seats, wheels and such. Tow hooks. Not only do they serve no real purpose for the kids out on the street with them, they look ridiculous because everyone knows they serve no purpose. Everyone knows it's just there to show you're down with the latest fad. Later, QD.

eh... they could serve a purpose like as was stated above with a wreck or something... it just looks different... something interesting i suppose.

but you knew the answer all along... . silly man.

It "could." But I know that at least 95% of the people that have them don't have them because they think they might need them one day.

And I didn't really know the answer. To an extent. I really did wonder if there was any real reason to have them that I was missing out on. I knew the fanboy angle. But now I know that's pretty much the only reason. Later, QD.

yeah... i mean there are probably SOME people out there with them that track their cars and need it, but those are probably far and few between.

Do you know how cowl induction works? The base of the windshield is a negative pressure zone, air is actually rotating under the windshield wipers TOWARDS the back of the hood. On a cowl induction car, say..... and old muscle car, this is ducted to the intake runners/carb horns/air filter/throttle bodies/ whatever. They stopped doing this because people were complaining of a "suction"sound at the base of their windshields.

Fastforward to someone with a hood lifted in the back, with no ducting. The air rushing in from behind (not hot air rushing out like people keep saying) creates back pressure in the engine bay, this higher pressure area reduces the airflow through the radiator, thus, heating the engine's coolant, and heating the engine. This is why auto manufacturers install weather stripping at the cowl IN THE FIRST PLACE, and the same goes for underbody splash guards also reducing the air pressure in the engine bay. So all you retards to lift the back of the hood, congrats on making your car run hotter without any aerodynamic knowledge.

Please spread this information on so people will stop doing it.

If anyone wants proof, find a temp gauge that reads digitally for exact purposes, then do a control test at monitoring the temps for a 5 minute drive at a constant speed and see which runs cooler.

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

    JDM tyte yo!!!

Oh and 87 turbo II some people(like me) had their hood propped up in the back because it hit the valve cover on a swap. Eventually I just put my hood back down and cut out the bracing. That's one more reason people do it though.

Who gives a shit. There are plenty of things on a car that are for looks only like paint for example. At least there is a potential for using it at some point. Do whatever the hell you want to your car, thas why its yours. If you want to add useless doo dads to it then why should I care

btw. i dont have one on my car lol

Tow hook is different then all those you listed and 1 of those you listed is against the law if you dont fix it!

Tow hook is like putting those BALLS on the ass of a truck is it needed?

Lip? who said I bought one an ever used it I hate them an never will install one

wheels ? I never bought aftermarket wheels matter fact I always bought stockers

washing car? so what I made a mess by driving in the rain or eating inside so I clean it

crack windshield ? well that is against the law if I don't but good try

LIKE I STATED THIS IS MY OPINION AN WHAT I LIKE ....But I was stating about the question/statement above and to the OP that made this thread an he has yet got a good benefit for the tow hook other then looks.

I wasn't saying that directly to you man... I couldn't care less what you do with your car. Don't like aftermarket lips? great. Always buy OEM wheels? perfect. Have never had a crack in your windshield? even better.

Regardless of your opinion and what you have/haven't done do/don't like - all of the things i stated are for looks. You don't like the appearance of your car when it's dirty? great, you clean it so it looks better. You're making my case by stating what you have and havent done - you have your preferences in vehicles; others have their own.

But i do believe that you and i are on the same team. on a daily driven vehicle, tow hooks have no useful benefit other than looks

Hood pins, push button starts, and tow hooks are already things seen daily.

I'm waiting for the LED lights on the side of a DD so I know what class they run. How about an on-board fire system? Air-jacks? Panoramic or Nascar style rearview mirror? Exterior master switches? Window net? Is your mom/spouse going to be in the driveway with a pit board telling you dinner's ready?

Save the cash for fan boy tow hooks and go pay for a track day.

Hell yeah! That's the "nascar" style mirror. Function over form. I had one but never got around to mounting it. Decided a loud exhaust and always using my turn signal would be enough to preventing accidents lol!

Get any new pics of the car? I haven't noticed any threads from the meet.

The WINK! mirror is pretty much period correct, too. It came out in the early 80s and a shitload of us mini-truckers had them. Later, QD.

I have factory tow hooks on my s2000 but they stay in the trunk unless I am at the track or need a tow. I don't understand the big brightly covered ones. I know that people that have a hatchback or sedan i.e. civic that was originally build as an economical daily driven car and was then modified and lowered is now in need of a hook as it can no longer be pulled from the mounts that Honda had intended. Why they make hooks that are a foot long have big holes and are painted neon green is beyond me. Some people just need the attention.

My father had one on his '95 Viper b/c the viper is very difficult to tow. There arent any easy access points to grab ahold of. it also looked sexy as hail!

That was his '95. I will be at the Toys KF meet this saturday with the 06.

QD-to answer your question, it does serve a purpose to a degree. But I do understand that most cars, especially Hondas, come equipped with a factory tow point(s). Why add another? It makes it convenient for the tow truck driver and I believe if you track the car you must have one.
