    Default Cars with interesting headlights.

I love when an automaker takes a different approach. Back in the days of hiding headlights, one would think the pop-ups are the only way to hide lights, but many different automakers made unique ways to stand out. The Corvette C4 has rotating headlights like so:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9Y7R4wfT4o

The Jaguar XJ220 has headlight covers that slide into the body to reveal "pods with lights:

    Dodge Charger 1966 and 1969:

    Porsche 928

Even the last generation trans am makes the list in my book for having really wide headlight units housing an unexpected quad-square setup that looks pretty badass:

Can you guys think of any more? I love this kind of stuff.

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

That is really nice, I guess the thread doesn't have to be flip ups, as much as it is about uniqueness, keep up hte posting.

ugh flip-ups/pop-ups! It's just added weight and mechanical BS. I never understood why other than to make it look streamlined but that could be achieved with a little design work

Take the Lamborghini Diablo for instance, in '99 they went to the Z32 300zx headlight unit instead of pop-ups.

Yeah, it's more mechanical things to go wrong, and it adds weight, but I've always loved them, they look really cool exposed or not, I can't explain why but I am just a big fan of them. I think the current mMata would've looked better if it harked back to the first gens with flip ups instead of the crappy fish looking system they went with:

My dad put a directional steering headlight on our dune buggy back in the late 70's. Simply attached it to a pivot point on the steering control arm...

I've always liked the backflipping headlights of the C4 Corvette.

The Buick Riviera had interesting clam-shell headlight covers.

If we're going to talk about directional headlights, then let's talk about mounting one in the hood of your car.

The Tucker Torpedo was one of the most incredible cars of its time. It's a damn shame the company got crushed the way it did.

These aren't headlights really, but they're definitely awesome. They're doing sequential tail-lights on the newest Mustangs, and I've seen conversion kits done on other Mustangs, but it all started with early Thunderbirds.

    Thunderbird

    Conversion on a Fourth-Gen Mustang

    Conversion on a Fifth-Gen Mustang

Factory on the '10 Models...fast-forward to 0:36 or so.

Look up "Sequential Tail Lights" on YouTube...there's some crazy stuff out there. I love the way they look...almost makes me want a Mustang just for that.

The old Opel GT has some froggy headlights too. My friend's dad had one...they roll over.

And of course...one of my favorite cars; the BMW 8-series.

Thanks to those of you contributing to the life of this thread, I just cant get enough of interestingly shaped/moving/ located headlights I don't know why

And those buick lights are BAD ASS! REPs if I can.

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

Yeah I had always heard about sequential taillights, but had never seen them actually working. It looks better than it sounded, I thought each bulb would flash on, then off as the next went on and so fourth, but the face that one at a time lights up until all 3 are lit, I like that.

I'm really digging the Opel headlights.

I forgot about the Opel GT frog headlights, I can't remember where I first saw them, but I always kind of liked them.
Taillights are a different issue, I can thin of many standouts, but that's a different thread.

Sorry for crappy Iphone camera quality. I snapped this one at work.

My coworker with a 370 found this on a forum. They are sick. He blacked out the headlight bucket, color matched the headlamp collars with the car, and added leds. I wish I could find more pics. It is sexy as hell.
