Default Lol Does this Sound like a Good idea?

Giving a 16 year old kid an '04 STi with an already upgraded Greddy turbo and nitrous. Runs ~380whp on 14psi, and 4xx on 17psi. He says that he might want to run just a 50shot of nitrous through it...

Keep in mind, this is his first car... Does it really sound like a good idea? Personally, i think he's going to wreck/total it.

If hes an arrogant dumbass, he may kill himself. Then again, he may not.

Does it sound like a good idea? I can try swallowing a sword - is that a good idea? Some do it anyway.

depends on the kid, his maturity, driving ability, etc. i know a few kids who at his age would be perfectly okay driving something like that, but i know ALOT more who would die the next week.

i agree it depends on the kid but for the most part its the stupidest idea ever. im really tired of seeing this kind of shit mainly because when it does end up bad, the parents act so surprised and shit. its like "he wrecked at 140mph and died, im so shocked!" yet they bought the car... signs of the world coming to an end when a 16 yr old gets a built sti for his first car. fuck that shit.

Probably not the best idea. You can't say for sure that he's going to drive like a maniac and kill himself. It's just that at that point you don't have hardly any experience driving period, let alone with that much horsepower.

He'll probably not have the car long if he likes to act like an idiot and he has spray... He'll either use it so much the engine will say screw it, or he'll end up in a wall of pole trying to show off... I hope I am wrong on both accounts though.

i don't buy this shit of "an upgraded Greddy turbo and nitrous" exactly what greddy turbo would he be using? and i haven't seen but a handful of sti's that actually use nitrous. and what parent's in their right fucking mind wouldn't test-drive the car before giving it to the kid and go "wow this thing has entirely too much power for a 16 y/o"? i think it's all bullshit. i could see the kid getting a stock STi at 16 and the OP just being jealous and trying to rationalize that. but hey whatever, i have no idea, i just doubt very seriously that sti makes 380 at 14 psi

I think this car should be a poster child for the Cobb Accessport. Give the kid the car detuned to 160whp when he's 16, but let him know that a year later you'll bump it up to 270whp like stock if he's got a clean driving record. And then if he keeps the clean driving record you bump it up to the max. You can even program rev limiters and speed limiters, and if you've got the AP he wont be able to retune it.

I think its stupid to give a kid that much car at a young age, especially coming from a fairly well off high school and seeing kids trash brand new 3 series and Benzs when they were 16 and those cars had less than half the power of this STI.

Anyways, at least the Greddy turbo upgrades are weak on subarus unless you do some serious turbo work. Out of the box they're all limited by small exhaust housings that are easily remedied by aftermarket 8-10cm housings.

Seriouly, him being 16 has nothing to do with driving skills. I was driving before I was 13. Some people can drive and some people can't. Sure, most 16 year old kids are careless and do not pay attention to certain things. This then leading to stupid mistakes. It can both ways, He could do alright but he could also seriously injury someone. Depends on if the kid is mature.

A guy I know is trying to get an STI and hes like 17 or around that.

Everything is tuned. Nitrous and 22+ lbs of boost

Numbers are like 400 without nitrous

One of the nicest STIs ive seen

Stupidity, arrogance and the like have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. The problem for this kid is EXPERIENCE. He has none. Many driving skills are not taught, they are learned via experience...time at the wheel. The more you have, the better prepared you should be to deal with the unexpected; as well as how to properly control a vehicle. Experience can help someone get out of a situation brought on by stupidity. Combine inexperience with stupidity, and you have near certain death or severe injury.

he might be alright. just because this is his 1st car doesn't mean he doeasn't have any driving experence. i was driving way before i was 16. but it's still not a good idea though. i wouldn't spend that much money on a kids 1st car. i would by him a cheap car that doesn't run when he's 15 and show him how to work on it so he respects it b/c that kid is not going to respect that STi
