Default 04 Volvo S60R...whats the deal with them?

what does anyone know about this car, good or bad? i know there are a couple of Volvo fanatics on this forum. Let me know, i'm hoing for the best when i got check it out at the dealer today since its in the back of the lot (wholesale).

here's a pic of what the car generally looks like...the one i've seen has some oem body parts that make it look more aggressive

i've read the stats of 300hp 295 ft-lbs of torque and it sounds heavier than the max 3571lbs..but sounds faster also...1/4mile in 14 secs...what else is there about them?

There good cars. They also take well to mod's. IPD has ECU, exhaust, suspension and brake upgrade's for them. Don't buy it expecting it to be an S4 or M3 though.

Some forums to check to do more research would be...
swedespeed.com <-- It has a big community of S60/V70 guys.
    volvospeed.com <-- What I'm on daily but it's more into 850's & S/V/C 70's

Great deals can be had on those cars because of the bad resale.

I doubt 5k that's what I paid for my 850R (I love my leather and suede interior). Good luck with it though.

I wouldn't imagine it being much harder than my 850R. The 850 isn't hard at all to work on it's just "different", I guess is how I would describe it. Instead of philips and flat heads it's all pretty much star bit's.
There are a fair bit of DIY guys on swedespeed, so it can't be to hard. (Inside Volvospeed joke)

Yeah like I said it isn't really that hard to work on just "different". The newer ones do have all wheel drive which would add some stuff though. If your serious about purchasing one check out swedespeed and volvospeed.

I haven't driven my teg in forever. Damn thing is a money pit about 3 times as much spent on it compared to what its worth.

Sammich, get it! There aren't too many around, at least from what I've seen, and they are nice cars. Very safe and mostly reliable and will not cost you an arm and a leg to fix unlike most Euro cars on the market. You will not be disappointed. I've always wanted one of these but I haven't been able to find one within the price range I want to pay.

Dude there Sweet rides, for real. One of my Bros has one down at AU. It the only somewhat fast car that no bitches complain about when they go for a ride. IF your planning anymods ECU Tune Plus FMIC, Is what my friend did and pretty quick. The car is really fucking comfortable.

I ran into a guy in buford with an 04 but he had put quite a bit of money under the hood. He said it was pushing 400+hp at the wheels and still as comfortable to drive as the day he bought it stock

? I've done several things to my maxima and everything has been pretty straightforward. The bay isn't bad at all. But it's def not a honda.....

Our max can do a lot more than 220whp on motor. You need to do research, not me.

I didn't know the volvo came turbo so it might be easier to make more power, but it weighs 3700 lbs...awd would be nice though...

But making power is irrelevent because you said yourself you just wanted to tint the windows then ride out...

I'll put it like this. You get your volvo. Then you come race my maxima, and see who wins...maxima's can only make 220hp.

Double postin nagger. Sammich I almost bought one awhile back. I used to sell volvo's and I can tell you that these are very reliable. In the few months that I was there they werent in for anything more then regular maintenance. the only thing handling wise about these things is that even though they are AWD they have the handling characteristics of a fwd car so dont expect a lot of tailout melarky. They do make decent power but like most euro cars the aftermarket is a little bit expensive but not nearly as bad as most of the other euro cars.

If you have any questions feel free to PM/Call.

^Red GT is right the AWD is front biased and sends power to rear when needed.

THE TURNING RADIUS IS FUCKING HORRIBLE I WILL WORN YOU NOW.

All you need to do to the S60R is sways, ecu, turbo back and front mount and you have a quick every day hauler.

Maintenance wise it is fine I'm talking about modding. Coilovers, B16A swap, Stage 2 clutch, lightweight flywheel, JDM one piece head lights... it goes on and on.

Wow S60r dropped that much in price. They were near 40k when they came out. Check Mike, BoostedS60R on here. He have some video clips in the car video section.

It's funny that you posted this because I just romped around in an 04 with 70k today with a friend who is looking at getting one. They truly are great cars, my friend (BATMOBL on ia) has had a 928S, Mcoupe, NSX, G35 and now a Boxster S and is looking at getting out of it and is somewhat interested in the S60R...
Anyhow, i've driven one and I wasn't too fond of it but I really wasn't able to get on it hard like we did today. Basically what we learned today is...
Best Volvo ever. Period! The suspension and the "advanced" setting is truly great. It feels much better than a B5 S4, despite being a Volvo. They are truly comfortable and quiet cars in the comfort setting and are really well balanced in Advanced. Obviously with minor suspension mods (shocks and springs) they would really handle great. I'd love to take it on Road Atlanta in the rain or even in the dry. They are predictable and very easy to drive very fast.
In terms of power they are nice and very torquey. IIRC they will trap 99-101 which is about the same as a stock Evo 8 on average. Also, IIRC with an upgraded intercooler, exhaust and software you can easily make 320/300awhp. Even with 3600lbs it'll really run strong. The only problem is the power falls off in stock form before the redline and they sound weak..
For the bad, they really are just Volvo's and don't seem/fell that desirable. They are nice but you feel like you just want more out of the car. I.M.O a B5 S4 or B6 S4 is just something special once modded a Volvo is just somewhat basic feeling (this is my opinion)
I've also heard they are hard to tune and your software options are limited. Evolve and a few others have reflashes but that's about it. I believe a guy on IA made 360awhp with spray but cracked his block (I heard this from another member and it may not be true). I have heard that 320-340whp is their limit unless you sleve the block and build the motor. So in terms of big power you better have big money and a desire to really spend it on a Volvo, otherwise your looking at a 320whp car reliably.

well here is my verdict on what i drove. first off its out of my price range $17k, so it looks like teh max is staying where its at for the time being unless i get a better paying job real soon. second if its not the tires, its something else cuz that sumbish rides rough and has horrible road noise, worse sounding/riding volvo i've ever ridden in, and almost felt to a point that it rode just as good or worse than my teg..maybe im exaggerating, but this is how this one felt, i havent given up, maybe when it gets to my price ill get one. it also ONLY had 37k miles and a golfer had this one, so a little TLC and this car is a jewel as far as s60r's are concerned. speed wise....um...yea lol u could feel the car ready to do its own thing, i didnt even punch it hard like i wanted to because of teh salesman in the car, but oh em gee...when i hit it half throttle...it was ready to dipset like cam'ron and juelz santana on a mixtape lol. space in teh car, if i havent noted is weaksos though, as i've said earlier..all teh negativity that ive mentioned..i dont care about if i had the ease of paying for this car w/o worries. car is badass for what you are getting, seriously

basically a 3800lb car w/ 300hp and 295 ft-lb tq....its freaking awesome and im waiting for when i can comfortably afford this 17k (or next year when it drops and i possibly have either better pay or a better job) to get this.
