If the big 3 could pay a more reasonable wage to their employees they wouldn't have to be so cheap on other things and could make the cars more competitive in the market. The government nor the big 3 want to be the bad guy and say the UAW has to go which is why this is dragging out so long. If they drop the UAW and start paying EVERYONE, including execs, a reasonable salary they can bring the quality up in other areas and still have pricing where it needs to be. If they get bailed out the UAW will remain and nothing will change and we'll be right back here in another few years.
