It actually starts to decrease output quite a bit as you get into the higher colors and it starts to look like 'ricer bulb' replacements. 6k has a nice touch of violet to it and still good output. I wouldn't go past that.Yes but the headlight is modified to spread the HID beam pattern in such a way that it doesn't cause glare. Trust me, go look it up, it's actually pretty technical so I'm not going into detail.
I have 8000k and I can see much better than my halogen lights. No matter what anyone says, any k of HID lights put out way more lumens than halogen lights. So get what you want, and the light output does get worse, but not by too much. I'm about to switch it up to 10000k
