    Default Dreaded BumbleBee exhaust

So i installed a Vibrant Header, Hi-Flow Cat, GM Performance Exhaust (2.25) which is basicly a borla with a GM stamp on it and now i have the dreaded bumble bee honda sound after 3,000 RPM.

Anyone know of a good resonator to elminate it? To give you an idea this guy has the exact same CAI/Exhaust setup.

exhaustflybys.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

    thanks

I'm not too sure how much different brands of resonators affect the sound, but I know a 30'' inch will do you nice. It will keep the noise down, but best of all you'll get that low grunt at high RPM's.

for the honda, try and Apexi N1 catback... they sound good, just don't take the resonators off like most people do...

OP, do you just have the stock res. on there now?

Honda's usually sound like "rice" as they say, when it is just a can put on. I believe it's the size of the piping that causes this. Try putting bigger piping on back to the "can"... I had 2 1/2 or 2 1/4, can't remember, but it gave it a deep sound. The Apexi, was a 5'' outlet too. The sound usually has nothing to do with the brand, it's the piping and how it's ran/size.

No the stock resonator is off it right now. Im using the GM Performance resonator atm. Im debating on adding BOTH and see if it clears it up.

Ours deepens with larger piping however going beyond a 2.5 is counter productive to our FI engines. I think we lose 14 hp if we go from 2.5-3.0. Resonators/mufflers make a huge difference.

I found a whisper resonator from ZZPerformance and may go with that. Sounded very stockish. Unfortunately its a pricey one. Especially after spending a few grand on this exhaust.

May help hondas i dont know. It is annoying after 3k rpm and makes me feel like a high-schooler again. Thanks guys for the input/help on this.

Probably not enough back pressure... I have 3 inch coming right off mine into a turn down, but it's actually better for mine (not the honda)... Hopefully you'll get it figured out bro.

i acutally think i got 2.25 on there now, think a 4inch tip. Sounded good till 5ish then ricey till 7k. lol.... after hole in can 3k+ it sounds ricey. I just think i need a muffler... hell i might just get a 5th gen prelude exhaust + a magnaflow rez and call it a day...

Seriously...exhaust sounds fine to me. Only thing you can do is get a larger muffler.

Lose HP with larger muffler? Negative. You will gain HP and quicker rpms. You will lose some tq if you open the exhaust all the way. The more mufflers, converters, etc... the more tq (to an extent).

Not sure, but I think he might have been referring to the size of the actual piping that comes back to the muffler, which would mean decreased back pressure... I think, not sure what he specifically meant though...

    back pressure = tq

    free flowing = hp

Hence why turbo guys run 3" wide open exhaust out of a tiny 4 cylinders.

can someone explain backpressure to me? I always thought it had to do with exhaust gas scavenging and velocity.

to op: if you don't want that sound you should probably put your stock exhaust back on and get rid of your 4 cylinder, they all pretty much sound like that

Umm no. That makes no sense....

Your not going to lose HP (esp not 14) for opening your exhaust.

Your probably thinking losing 14 hp for those ricer ass lambo doors.

car doesnt even sound bad...lol It sounds like a car with a nice exhaust system on it. Its a 4cyl. it has a sound to it. its not gonna sound like a VQ, its not gonna rumble like a V8. Its gonna sound like a 4cyl..because its a 4cyl. But to me it sounds fine.. ESPECIALLY! for a car with header/cat/full exhaust.. i can say hondas have more of a bumblebees tone to them.. but thats a honda.. thats what they sound like opened up.

But if you insist a resonator always does the trick..

Thats why he revs it to the redline at least 50 times at the gwinnett sonic meets! He's trying to get your attention to let you know that he's ready to crush you now! I'd be careful though if you decide to show him up. He's drinking and driving at every meet like a F'n D Bag.

The sounds generally depends on the muffler, and how it's designed. Weld another muffler on maybe?

depends, sometimes name brand isn't necessarilly better than a knock off, or even stock parts for that matter. Just do research...

Technically you are right. Alot of people confuse or stick with saying it is back pressure when its really velocity.

    Faster Velocity = better torque.

    Backpressure = bad.

there is dyno proof on css.net that going from 2.5-3.0 loses 14 hp with the stock charger.

I fixed it by removing the old GM resonator and have 2 reversed glass pack resonators in backwards.

3" piping Does not always benefit a F/I motor. backpressure has nothing to do with it
