Considering how I want to get a Spectra5, that works out pretty well.

I think the Rio5 looks even better, though probably not as fun. If only they sold the Cee'd here.

The Rio5 looks too much like a Focus IMO.

Just google'd some images and I like everything but the taillights. That and it's a little long.

Come see me and I will give you the hook up on a Honda and you'll have something that will still be worth owning in a few years.

Wait, so are the Protege5 and the Spectra5 actually related, or are they just that similar?

kia's are garbage...get something, anything else...

stick with nissan, toyota, honda, mazda...if nothing else, keep the mustang

why downgrade, and that is a hell of a downgrade

kia's are known for their poor quality..but you just do you, and umma do me!

As much as I love the Stang, if I can swap the Stang in on a Spectra5 and come out under $20K total, I'll probably wind up doing it. I gotta go talk to the guy tomorrow to run the numbers and test drive one.

I'm only considering the Spectra5 right now because it's basically a rebadged Protege5. Sport wagon (station wagon) with sport suspension, 140HP, 4-wheel disk brakes, 16" wheels, and it actually doesn't look tht bad. It has pretty much all the basics that I'm looking for. Adequate power, a 5-speed, good gas mileage, and a jack for my MP3 player. Looking at one in black. I figured with wheels, tint, exhaust, and a drop it look pretty decent.

Thoughts? Please keep the "Kia's are crap" comments to a minimum. Thanks.
Might I inquire which store you are getting it from? A fully loaded 5 speed Spec 5 SX runs around 18K figure in a 3k rebate and you're looking at around 14K +++. (I used to work there so you can take this info to the bank.)For the love of god stay away from Union City though.

I'm quite sure Kia's quality has greatly improved over the years, but hey...even if things fall to ****, you've still got a monster warranty!

spectre5 isnt really related to the protege5 at all.... it just looked like it alot, they share the elantra chassis. And the Elantra beta2 2.0 motor.

The only kia's that were mazda related where the 94-97 sephias, they had mazda 1.8dohc bp motors, and it wasnt really a mazda built motor. i hear it was just a direct copy built by kia.. but it was exactly the same in and out.

That Spectre5 is all hyundai...which is still good!

I owned a kia...it was reliable and good on gas. It was also so as balls. Like, I had to do a rev and drop on the clutch to get it to move. I say forget the kia and go get a spec-V sentra

its not.. its a rebadged Elantra.

The same people designed the P5 and the spectra5, thats why they look so much alike. but they are mechanicaly different.

lol , alot of people thought or think that it is... But supposedly it has a similar suspension setup as the p5...atleast... the reviews of it say its just as good!

It was designed by the same people and IIRC it's running the old Mazda BP motor. I'd have to double-check though.

Either way, I test drove one and was pleasantly surprised. The car is quite spirited and handles pretty well. Body roll was at a minimum and the 140HP motor moved the little wagon in a quick (not fast) manner. The exterior is easy on the eyes with the only real eyesore being the blocky bulge on the front for a front plate, but other than that it looked really good in black. The interior was okay. The guages were a little bland and the seaweed green dials could go away. The seats weren't very comfy and offered so side support at all. They did look good though, lol. The center dash was decent with the seaweed green lighting but everything was simple and easy to figure out. The knobs felt a little cheap, but nothing aside from that. Door trims and other little dress-up bits were at a minimum but added a nice touch to what would otherwise be just another Kia interior.

I'd rate the car a 7.5/10 because of the lackluster interior, but it gets high marks in exterior appearance and fun-to-drive factor.

Not sure if I'll be happy with a trade-in or if it'll really help me with my financial situation in the long run. Still running some numbers so I'll check back with you guys later.

It has no relation to the Protege5 or Mazda. Its a rebadged Hyundai, and it uses a Hyundai engine as well.

I have to say though that Kia is now owned by Hyundai and hopefully Hyundai's quality has spread to Kia's cars. I still probably wouldn't buy one though.

naw homes, i wish it did have a bp in it, but its all hyundai, but it was designed by the same guy that did the P5 . its said to have the same handling characteristics as the P5 tho. but its no mazda....

The only kia/mazda was the 94-97 Sephia's they had Bp motors in them..

list a car u can get for 11k brand new, with a 10 year, 100k warranty...

There is a thick line in between the Forum world, and the Real World.. Not all cars are meant to be super track/handling speed stars.

There are Nissans that quality as a POS or barely better than a POS, as well as Toyotas and Hondas.

While past Kias were not leaders in engineering they continue to get better and gain ground.

    This is coming soon.

FYI, Kia has a V-8 with a 6 speed in their new Borrego. Nissan, hell ACURA does not offer that combo.
