The miata will always be a 4 cylinder. It was designed that way and will always be that way. The car was never designed to have anything else. It was made to be like the great british 4 cylinders from back in the day. Hell they even added a detent ball in the shifter to make it notchy like the older cars since people said it was too smooth. When you're making a rear wheel drive car you're going to have a wide engine bay with a small motor because you don't have anything else to put there. The suspension had plenty of room so why put something there just to add weight. I'm glad the car will get smaller and lighter again. The NC's killed the greatness of the miata. As for power, I say leave it alone. No one was really complaining about the NB's and the MS5. 200hp would be nice and easy on the current motor and would be fine if they lost a little weight of the car. Maybe in the redesign they'll leave a little indentation for the fuel pump in the fire wall and they'll end up with an MS5 again with the turbo 2.3L in it.

I thought I read that the weight increase was only 12lbs between NB to NC.

yeah its not slow at all. its about 20lbs heavier and has ~50 WHP more than the NB, so its no worse of a car at all. they just took away alot of the simplicity of the car with the updated interior and the ungodly number of autotragics produced. theres something like 6 manual na/nb miatas to 1 auto, and i dont know the exact ratio of the NC but have you been to the dealership?

yeah, as far as being a "fast" straight line car, boost is the only way to go. miatas are made for curves and dont work very well out of their element.

one thing you can do though, is get door handles. +50rwhp, guaranteed

but seriously, i/h/e will turn it into a completely different car.

i actually think that miatas are fast enough in their current form. I just dont like the FSDE 2.0 motor too much. Id love to see a 2.3turbo, and the 2.0 fs as a base. but the miata has never had multiple motor choices... 200hp, NA 2.3 would be nice..
