This weekend I've been really thinking about rebuilding the engine in my GSR. I'd like to do it because it has 165k miles on it and feels lacking in power. It runs great, don't get me wrong, but I just like having peace of mind and a little more performance is always fun. If I decide to go through with it here is what I was thinking:
Bore block to 81.5mm
RS Machines ITR pistons (should yield close to 11.4:1 compression)
ACL bearing set
ARP head studs/rod bolts
OEM Honda gasket kit/timing tensioner/water pump/oil pump
Gates timing belt
I'll be using my factory GSR head of course. I have a friend that owns a machine shop that will be doing all the block work and will check over my cylinder head for me as well. I'll do all the disassembly and assembly myself.
First and foremost, will 11.4:1 compression be too much for a reliable semi-DD? (I have lots of cars to drive, so this won't be driven everyday) Will the engine perform well with the factory GSR head and cams? I want to upgrade valvetrain/cams sometime, but I was hoping to put it off a bit. What sort of power could I possibly expect with this setup? (keeping in mind I have an ITR header, 90mm exhaust, blox intake mani)
I know a lot of people do the poor man's ITR with really good results but I can't seem to find many people who have done this with just a GSR head and without upgrading the head/cam. I posted on Honda-tech but my thread didn't get any replies then disappeared in the sea of threads, haha. Any input is appreciated.
