whats up my fellow IA fam!!! well ive been dealing with hondas for a long ass time now finished my first car when i was only 14 had that purp jdm tight EJ zc dohc with jacksonracing supercharger on it ( this was back when er body was rockin rice in a box kits ) but i think it time for me to move on ( the honda scene has gotten a lil too uniform for me ) not to bash any one or there cars i still love hondas to death H foe life. but i want to start dubbin it
but heres my problem ......... i dont know shiit about vw

so im prayin to the DUB gods and guru's for sum advice and ideas swaps.... people.... local shops.... websites ..... (for parts and pics) i like the old skoolz a lil better than the new school tho 88 to 96 golfs jettas maybe a Cabriolet

what im aiming for is a dd with a lil boost and slamed on fat lips thats all not looking to do 1000 hp or nun lol but any ways help me out with the DUB world guys and if you know sum one sellin one for the low ( around 2000) let me no shell or not 5pd tho

You have to go a lot farther back than '96 with VW to be "Old School". There are some who say real VW's don't have radiators.

But coming from the H world into VW's is definitely a step in the right direction. The best thing about VW's is that the VW meets don't have the attitude that the "import" meets have. When I go to the V meets theres so much aggression... people doing burnouts and revving their **** up. VW meets and VW people are not like that for the most part although every bunch has its bad apples

As for buying a VW, its probably best to avoid using the internet all together. Prices on IA are waayy too high (sorry guys but it's true). And VW Vortex isn't much better. Craigslist is OK sometimes but you have to get them quick. You might strike it lucky on the Samba:

as far as selecting a model....

pick a mk4/mk5 if you want something newer, nicer as far as daily driving...(space agish lol what i like to call them) where the 1.8t is already available.....a mk3 if want something little bit older but not vintage but already has a vr6 in it, or 2.0 mk3 if plan on going boost, what i have gathered with the mk2 is that....yeh they are a classic they look really nice when done but be prepared to spend alot on replacing/finding alot of old parts... and running into alot of small issues, try to find a ce2(90-92) mk2 if you go that route, if you decide to do a swap down the road is will be much easier.....mk1 is similar but even more troublesome....


another thing is...enthusiasts in the dub scene are always coming up with new ideas/trends and aren't scared of thinking outside the box... (wider wheels, wild paint schemes, crazy interiors, smoothest/cleanest engine bays around)its usually speed and looks or just looks, sometimes just speed....

The thing about MkII's is that they usually have the same issues that any car thats 20+ years old would have. Once you correct all the half-ass fixes and do all the basic maintainance the previous owners have neglected they are really great cars. Especially if you are lucky enough to get one that was properly maintained to start with.

Parts availability is not a problem at all with MkII's. You can get pretty much any maintainance item locally from Marietta Foreign Auto or cheaper from Adairondack (GAP) or AutohausAZ if you can wait for shipping. Most of the VW dealership parts departments are not very helpful.

i was just speaking from my personal experience with the mk2.... there were a couple parts i couldnt find just by going to marietta foreign auto, the dealer, or the junk yard...

if i could start over..., i would of gotten a later model mk2...swapped an aba (2.0) in it (from a mk3) and pieced together a turbo kit....would of left "shaving" the bay n such for a later date...but you live and you learn....

88 Jetta Mk2 here. Absolutely love the car! Its got springs/struts/ sway bars, wheels and tires, and the thing handles INCREDIBLE! Its the 5spd with the 16v motor which is indestructible might I add?

That car brought me to love european cars. Even it being an 88 it drives like a brand new one. Its incredible.

Untill you over-advance the timing. Turn the distributor a hair too far and you send the valves through the pistons

The 8v motors are non-interference from the factory, and they really are indestructible. Especially the ABA's with the forged rods and oil squirters.

Iron blocks for the WIN. In the end of days will be nothing alive but cockroaches and VW motors
