    Default vortech question

i just bought a 2001 mustang gt with an SQ S-trim Vortech supercharger already installed. It makes 10psi with the current setup, but I was wondering if anyone knew what boost these model superchargers are capable of, as I was planning on intercooling the car later allowing me to crank the boost up some.

id say that its good for at least 15-18 psi with a new pulley but u might want ot check some mustang specific sites that that kind of technical information

    is it a v1 or a v2? the v2s are capable of 20psi.

no aftercooler, just a pipe connecting the supercharger compressor to the throttle body. what sites would someone recommend for good mustang inter/aftercoolers? also, does anyone know how much power the 2Vs are capable of handling before having to get into the internals?

its not the v2 you have to worry about. im not too familiar with the new edge mustangs, i know more about the new models but i wouldnt go past a 12psi pulley. thats about as far as i can take it on mine, and the newer ones have a bit stronger internals ( forged rods from the factory). like i said before the SC itself can make about 20psi. if your running anywhere near that you might want to upgrade the internals. but 12 and under your safe, just make sure to get a good dyno tune. its key.

also if you want a front mount IC paxton makes a great kit, kinda costly but works well. if not you can always buy the aftercooler kit from vortech.

it was tuned by mph originally when the kit was first put on. It came with the 42lb injectors and the bigger fuel pump. I've checked the vortech site and those aftercoolers are real costly. Also, where can I find out how much psi each pulley size makes anyway, how do I know which one to get?

well at least on the s197s the 3.6 pulley makes about 8psi. the best thing to do is just sign up on a mustang forum ( mustangcollective.com) and ask around their. the only two forums im really active in are this one, and that. guys over there are very knowledgable about stuff like that. or if u email vortech they can tell you.

yes the aftercoolers are very costly too.
look at www.frozenboost.com you can rig up an innercooler if you want, just gotta make sure the sizes are right. later down the road i might try to innercool mine with a FMIC.

    I can't stand the SQ's. They're way too quiet!

400-450 is about as far as most would suggest to push it, i'd play it safe, though, and run low boost till you were able to get a forged rotating assembly especially since you currently have no intercooler, the max boost is 20psi btw

just make sure to get it dyno tuned. the stock vortech tune sucks balls. its super rich, my a/f was almost in the 13's when we dynod the stock tune. very rich. i picked up 15 rwhp on my sixxer with a dyno tune aswell as knowing that my car is running very safe. well worth the money.

it was dynoed and sct tuned right after the kit was installed so the tune it has now is fine. an intercooler and a 12psi pulley are the only things im looking at getting any time soon. also, would long tubes be worth the money, as the x-pipe i have now only allows for short tubes

long tubes will help the flow of your exhaust, especially in the case of forced induction. this will equal more power with less boost. keep in mind, though, how much the bottom end of your stock shortblock can handle. i'm sending you a pm with some more information.

long tubes will net you some pretty good gains and make the car sound beastly. only downside is the new midpipe you will have to get.

true.. but you can justify it by selling the old midpipe and then the sound and power gains you'll get haha .. i'll eventually s/c my gt with a final exhaust setup of mac lt headers, mac shorty prochamber, and pypes violator catback.. it sounds killer right now w/ the stock manifolds still in place and the full size prochamber

good luck getting 20psi without the belt slipping...actually unless you already have at least an 8 rib or greater setup 12 psi can start to slip...installing a new belt can help some, but ultimately you need more ribs...

Also there are a ton of other things you will have to start considering once you start pushing the car past 450rwhp...injectors, fuel pump issues, maf...
