    Default 2009 Corvette ZR1 starts at $103,300

    Autoblog writes

General Motors and Chevrolet have just released all their official numbers for the 2009 Corvette ZR1 and... hold on to your butts... its base MSRP (including destination charges) will be $103,300. Add to that a $1,700 Gas guzzler tax, $2,000 for chrome wheels and another $10,000 for the only Option package available that adds upgraded seats, side air bags, Bose audio, a nav system, Bluetooth, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel and leather-wrapped interior, and you're looking at a grand total of $117,000. We believe that may make the Corvette ZR1 the most expensive product ever offered by GM, but consider what you get. The ZR1 is a 638-hp supercar that can reach 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, run the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds at 131 mph (!) and top out at 205 mph, all while returning 14 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. Unfortunately, Chevy didn't hit its target of having the most fuel-efficient supercar on earth with the ZR1, as they admit that the Dodge Viper (13/22) and Porsche GT3 (15/22) are a bit less thirsty. Of course, they're neither as powerful nor as fast, and the Porsche is more expensive. The ZR1 will likely be marked up by dealers far above its $117k asking price, but kudos to General Motors anyway for having the balls to build it.

And is $240,000 too much for a 911?

But a GT2 is still worth all of it.

im pretty sure a stock Z is more than anuff for 99% of people out there

but like they say,it was cool that chevy went through with it.........also have u seen the new camaro Z28 thats gonna have the same LS9 putting out over 500hp for under 50k

    Well lets toss it up.

    Price of LS9 vs a LS7
Price of Carbon on Carbon brakes vs stock steel Z06 brakes.
Price of carbon Fiber vs Fiber Glass
Price of the Magnetic adjustable suspension.

These things cost money. Lots of money, we are luck G.M. didn't stick a $150,000 price tag on it like a European car would see.

Unfortunately this will end the creation of the hand-built 427 motor. Thats the only beef I have with it. However, its a car for 100 grand that does 205 mph right from the factory and is 100 percent reliable.

    Cant beat that.

Its definitely a nice car and has alot of neat technology in it, but for $100k+ i think the money could be better spent

it is nice but I'd def spend my money another way....Audi R8....or I'd just buy and build a r34 skyline gtr V-spec to be faster than the vette for the same amount of money...just my opinion...vettes are one of the few domestic cars that are respectable though

    R34 lmao lolololol. ... Every ricer's dream.

With $117k (plus dealer mark-up) I would definitely buy one of the following

    1) Porsche GT3
    or
    2) Dinan M6 (or even M5) 5.7L stroked V10 628hp
    or
    3) Nissan GTR (probably the last thing I would buy)
    or
    4) wait for the new NSX (5.5L V10 550hp)
    or
    5) 2003 Ferrari 360

Any of these would stand out more than a vette. To the average person, the ZR1 is no different than the base model. It does have a few different visual features to differentiate it, but the average person would notice a porsche, M6, GTR (maybe), Ferrari, or even a NSX before the vette.

Don't get me wrong, this car is ****ing badass, but there are just so many other things I could get in the $125k range.

From a performance aspect, there's not much on the road that could beat this thing. For the price, its actually a good deal. However, I just don't see how the price is almost two and a half times as much as the base model vette.

Wow I totally agree. Someone on this board who actually knows what they are talking about. REPS. Good taste. I'll take option 1 or 2..pref 1 if its a 997 but I cannot wait to see that an all motor 630hp Dinan M5.

Actually my neighbor and family friend had and still has the 3rd 997 GT2 in the South and he got it for 207k out the door, with options. So . hahah.

And yes you are right. I've had many coversations about all cars with him and and i've asked him what he thinks of the GTR etc. He agrees they are bang for the buck but thats about it. Sit in the GT2 or take it for a spin and you'll see.

I see. You must know that Porsche are very secret about the way they sell cars. They do have the highest profit sheets so hats off to your friend. But like i said, the listed msrp on a GT2 is ~ $240,000.

To build an R34 to be faster than a "Vette" a Z06 or a "ZR1"?

Your coming out at this from the street tuner mentality.
This is the same "i can build a 9 sec civic and be faster "
So what? The vette is still a better package than the civic.

I will say that the GTR even in R34 gen is a good car but this debate is still on what is a better car from the factory.

I mean damn, if money was the only issue then a homebuilt Caterham will destroy around a track.

I respect you like Nissans but its the same reason that guy lashed out at you like that.

This whole mentality of "I can just do this and that and be faster" is old.

These cars are on another level.

Yet the vette will run circles around all of them. This isn't a car you stunt in, its a car you haul ass in. Most people will probably view its entry price the way you have, needing more differentiated styling. However I would wager that most if not all at zr1's will be sold to the extremely loyal corvette faithful, at which point the performance is the only thing that matters eliminating all other options for them.

Yes I agree that the ZR1 would most likely beat all of those cars I listed, but my point was that no matter how badass it is, its still a corvette. I love corvettes, they perform well, but the interior is always lacking. For $120k you can get something that is 90% as good of a performer, that looks much better, stands out more, and has a 200% nicer interior, like the Dinan M6, or the GT3.

I respect Vettes but I just don't see 100K for a vette being feasible.

Same for the GTR 100k + is too costly.

Patience is a virtue, I hope that people who willingly pay dealer markup also willingly donate to foundations. There's just not a worse way to throw away money in car- buying.

yes it does. It has one of the most advanced drive trains ever made on top of having an incredible chassis to sit in. Even without considering the electronics, its just that great of a combination of balance.

It would be perfect if it was available with a 6 speed manual.

I think then there would be a better comparison between the two.

i mean, the ZR1 is lighter, more powerful, and better brakes....................is the GTR just that easy to drive?and the ZR1 is like trying to tame a 427 cobra

and if i so desire spend 30k
and run with the zr1 or be faster

btw does anyone have zr1 times compared to z06 times?

i checked edmunds and your right. Looks like my other source was way off. Well a $50,000 discount is excellent news as far as i'm concerned.

Id buy it because to me its more of a pure sports car than the GTR (which is sick) but so far it seems that its so easy to drive that almost anyone can jump in it a turn sick lap times. I guess if I wanted that "this thing is so fast I almost **** myself" feeling I would go with the vette. If I wanted to be the fastest on a rd course def the GTR.
