Post 2010 Maxima Diesel available ONLY with a Manual Transmission

    Jalopnik -

    http://jalopnik.com/396228/201...shift

Nissan just picked up a few points in our book for reversing the trend and announcing that the 2010 Nissan Maxima Diesel will be offered only with a manual cog-swapper, just in time for the oil-fueled American Civil War of 2009.

Although we generally like the relatively less awkward-looking 2009 Nissan Maxima, and some claim it marks a return to the Maxima's 4DSC roots, it still looks a bit heavy to us, but the combination of a torquey diesel engine and a stick is intriguing.

    lolol I hope you're just joking. A 2 cylinder???

They are actually planning on releasing a 2.2L DOHC 4 cylinder diesel engine in 2009. It will most likely be avaliable in the accord before the civic.

I wouldn't believe half the stuff you read in honda tuning. Its a 4 cylinder for sure.
EDIT: were you talking about this article?

    http://www.hondatuningmagazine.com/n...ine/index.html

That engine is a 4 cylinder.

I read diesel power a lot and the Maxima originally had plans for a 4.0 diesel from renault. I wonder why they changed the power plant?

i still doubt it's a 2 cyl., unless it has a really serious hybrid powerplant, and is very compact

A 2 cylinder would run too rough for a car. Also, at 2.2L the pistons would be the size of a paint can...

Like I said, don't believe half of the **** you read in honda tuning.... I wouldn't exactly call it top notch journalism.

1st, the headlights are beautiful and are what Nissan's will look like from now on.

    2nd.

You know how it goes with the rumormill. Sometimes it tends to be spot-on in its predictions; sometimes... not so much. Such is the case with recent reports that the upcoming clean diesel engine in the Nissan Maxima would be equipped with a manual transmission only. As we reported at the time, a move like that would surely limit the new diesel's appeal to the stick-averse American buying population, and therefore hurt sales. Fear not, slushbox fans, Motive has confirmation from an engineer at Nissan that the Maxima, even in diesel form, will in fact be offered with an automatic transmission as standard. Moreover, it's the shift-it-yourself gearbox that now seems a bit unlikely. As much as we enjoy the thought of rowing our own gears with tons of diesel-supplied torque on hand, delivering the Maxima with an automatic is surely the right choice to make.

My grandmother can drive a manual transmission. I think learning how to drive a manual should be the way every one is taught, it is more involved than an auto and u are less likely to get distracted. my
