    Default Help Selecting car

Okay so i have reduced my choices to an Evo 8 or 9, Skyline, Rx-7 or a civic.
    Anyother suggestions are welcome.
Which one of those do you think I should buy? or can you suggest anyothers?

You don't necessarily have to buy Japanese. For way less than 30k you could get a Volvo s60R, or a BMW 3 Series. Since you are looking used, you might want to consider these.

    Outright Handling...
My budget will depend on the car I decide on. I will save accordingly. Looking to pick up the car early in 2009.

Wow. You're comparing apples to oranges. There is more than one BRAND NEW Porsche available for under 50K.

I just think that this is an asinine statement:

Hey stupid. If you're that moronic enough to put a Civic in a list of car choices that includes an RX7, a Skyline or an EVO (whatever) then you deserve to get the Civic. Later, QD.

Hey guys. I'm gonna take my girlfriend out for dinner next week. I've narrowed it down to these restaurants: Ruths Chris Steak House, Fogo de Chao, Mortons Steak House, Brio Tuscan Grille, or Taco Bell. Where should I take her!?

Ok, I am not going to bash you, but...

The EVO 8 and 9 are both AWD and as a result, they naturally oversteer unless they have had a lot of work. The Civic should not be mentioned with the EVo's or the RX7 because if built, FWD will torque steer (not great for handling). Personally, I have no problem with the RX-7 other than it is down on torque a bit, but all things considered, a very good motor.

As for your comment on Porsche, pretty much every carb porsche (Pre-'76) will drive circles around any of the cars you are considering in the handling department. As for the Japanses cars turn better statement, do remeber that the early japanese suspension designs were actually british. Colin Chapman of Lotus, to be precise.

If you are looking at handling, look at older cars. The lighter the better. Maybe a Datsun 510 (hey, it is japanese), or a 240Z. European cars could be a BMW 320i or an Audi. If you actually have near 50k, look at a used 911. You will not do better in the handling department.

    Yes. Legal crap.

They are DOT ILLEGAL unless you have one of the "Motorex" cars. They are illegal on the federal level as they are not on the approved import list.

You get one shipped over, good luck getting it titled and then insured.

lol at civic being on the list! Well all you've done is put a few cars on a list... You didn't state what you wanted out of the car like, horsepower, torque, handling....etc. Make the list more specific next time. I would get a '04 WRX Sti.

My god no. dont tell him to get an sti. look at his comments, whatever he gets is going to be totalled im sure. so go with the civic. theres plenty to replace with.
