I was referring to a V-8 swap in the 300zx, which has been done many times.

Just cuz I said the 300zx project was a lil out of my range doesnt mean I can't spend dough. I just didn't want to spend 9k on a motor swap.

I actually say get a 300zx. As much as I love dsm's. I actually think the 300zx is a better car that holds it value more.

As far as a 300ZX holding their value, the only really valuble ones are 1993 and 1996 Twin Turbos w/ low miles. The N/A ones can be had all day from 2000-6000.

To the O.P., if you're gonna start out w/ a low milage TT, you dont have to swap the motor. U.S. motors are more powerful due to the Gentlemans Agreement b/t Japan and the U.S. The same as the Supra. The JDM motors are restricted due to HP constraints over there. Get a TT car, and talk to Z1 motorsports and look at the turbo packages they offer.

I was really looking at like maybe a small overhaul project. I wanted to get a 300X TT with high mileage and have the motor refreshed. According to the guys at Z1 that's not a wise route and want like 8k to swap in a new motor. Really I think I'm just going to look for a 2G GST or GSX and go from there. This isn't something I'm in a huge rush to complete but at the same time I want something I can drive until I get the money to do what I want with it. I think I've found a 98 that I like that's just what I'm looking for. I'm gonna shoot for 300 and go from there with a 6 bolt swap.

that was a blanket everyone knows that JDM motors even though they were rated at 287 as the Gentlemans Agreement was stated everyone knew they were making more that 300.

The JDM 300TT motors came with the smaller Automatic turbos, they did make less power.

get the 2g gst-gsx it's the cheapest route.Swap a 6-bolt with rebuild, good headgasket and arp studs. It will hold 20psi with a 16g turbo and it's good power

Um... 1996 holding their values? 1996 is by far the worst to get because of the OBD-2... and holding their values 94-95 are the best ones to get.

If performance is what you want, the 93 TT is the best one to get, but if your looking for something to fix up and increase in value, 95-96 is the way to go

I.M.O every car you listed is just terrible and bound to so many problems. GTi would be my choice but the 1.8's have limited potential but can be very fun for cheap. The 300zx's are nightmares I have two friends with one and they are just complicated, overweight pigs but...if built right can be very fast. I would not be caught dead in a GS-T

what car suits your driving style the best? all three are so different. I am biased toward the RWD but the other two have redeeming qualities as well.
