    Default exhaust gains or loss?

I hae a 2K Nissan Maxima. I installed an Injen CAI and recieve moderate gains and now I'm currently thinking about buying an ehxaust system. I am trying to stay all motor so I don't have any forced-induction plans for my car. As such, would there be a difference in hp gains in spending money and buying a greddy evo2 exhaust rather than an ebay exhaust?

Ebay exhaust will more than likely sound shitty and the fitment will suck. Save up and buy a quality exhaust system.

That's what I was afraid of but that's what my instinct is telling me to go with as well. O well. Guess I'll start saving for that damn $600 cattman cat-back.

Sometimes I wish I woulda just bought a Honda, parts are so much cheaper...lol

I HAVE A 2K MAX AS WELL..UR BEST BET WILL BE TO DO RESEARCH..NOT START A THREAD..ON EXHAUST ON MAXIMA.ORG. BUT I'VE BEEN LOOKING AT THE MEGAN CATBACK ON EBAY..IT LOOKS STOCKISH, BUT I'VE HEARD IT HAS A RASPY SOUND...THEY SAY AT LEAST A CATTMAN YPIPE AND A CUSTOM 2.5 PIPING ALL THE WAY BACK. I'M STILL UNSURE WHAT I'M GOING TO DO WITH MY EXHAUST SYSTEM AS IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND SO DOES THE O2 SENSORS

    Ditch the Injen, it's junk.

Unless you go for headers or y-pipe anything beyond the cat is mostly for sound quality while you are still N/A. The Maximas main restriction is in the pre-cats and swirl valves in the lower intake manifold. (if you have them)

Get yourself a basic AFC and correct your A/F ratio and make sure the VI is functioning properly (power-rod can stick). If you are 5 speed you can expect right around 200whp/wtq. give or take.

LOL I take pride in my injen since I paid an arm and a leg for it and it took me forever to install it.

I guess I need to do some more research about this...What is a AFC and VI..I'm fairly new to tuning cars and this max is my first modded car.

yea the thing with nissans is that they really like their cats. id get some headers first and then exhaust, or both at the same time. if you shop on ebay long enough you can find a good deal on some name brand ****.

Damn right, I drive one of the worst Nissans when it comes to pre-cat failures lol. Gain wise you will need headers and full exhaust to actually get a gain thats worth anything. I once had an eBay exhaust. It's good for sound for a couple of years and that's about it. If I were you I would definitely save up and get name brand stuff. You can get it off eBay just make sure its not the eBay no name crap.

personally, for the 5th gen, i would get an ebay exhaust. a local guy has one and it sounds good to me. other than piping an fitment, the only thing that can go wrong is the muffler breaking apart. well, he had his for a little while and it still sounds pretty good.

but the y pipe on the 3.0 liter maximas has the most restrictions as this is where the pre cats are. replace these instead of full headers and you will save yourself a very big labor fee and money. catback will do you a little good. intake will do you a little good.

I had my eBay muffler on for 2 years before I replaced it. When I took it off and shook it you could hear all the fiber glass. It also starting whistling when I got my car up to 4k rpm til red line lol.

tell me how you justify spending 300 bucks for an injen "cai."
they're not really cold air btw, unless you think that a filter placed behind the radiator fans is actually cold?

and the vi is what is referred to as the variable air intake system..i believe..VAIS. it's basically the idea of vtec. after 4-5k rpm, the vais kicks in. the 5th gens are notorious for having the rods break and causing a loss of high end power...i mean a lot..i had the same problem.
look at the maxima forums and search...and follow the rules they have..

also, headers won't do 3.0 maxes any benifits.
    looks and very minimal gains..

I damn near guarantee you got 0 gains from that intake. It's prob not even put in right and just a hot air intake.

Of course it's not literally "cold air". There's not an ice box in that *****. It just replaces the restrictive factory air intake system. And I noticably feel an increase in horsepower, especially past 3500 rpm's. It's not much, but it's only an intake. It's not like I supercharged my max. And it was installed properly. People like you waste too much time on these forums talking ****. Go pay a girl and beg her to take your virginity, and try to get a life buddy.

While I won't claim to know a lot about cars, because I don't, but I do know that putting in aftermarket Cattman Headers on a 5th gen maxima eliminates 2 precats before my main cat, and you gain about 10whp...A number that I consider pretty nice to come from a single bolt-on mod.

My bad. Won't do it again. I was trying to get people's opinions that have had ebay exhausts. But it's ok, I've decided to go with the greddy evo 2.

yup you don't know anything about a 2000 maxima. if you had a 2003, and you got headers, that's a different story...tell me, what's the gains on a 2000 maxima with cattman headers..JUST headers?

now if you were referring to headers + a Y PIPE, then you'll be getting rid of the precats.. now tell me, what do you know about a 2000 exhaust?
a y-pipe would be and IS the best mod for us 5th gens..not 5.5 gens...

The 2 precats on a 2000 max, a 5th gen not 5.5, are built into the Headers not the y-pipe. And when you get Headers...you usually have to get a y-pipe that is unique to the set of headers..unless you're buying some cheap obx **** that has the same shorty header design as the stock manifolds. Now what do you know about a 2k max?

I laugh at every single last one of ya'll who spends big money on catback systems. If I were to take a pic of my exhaust, you'd laugh at it. But I did mine the cheap way. I got parts of my exhaust from the junkyard. It works out very nice. While ya'll look for shiney exhaust, I do the most cost effective. You spend $300+ I spend maybe $40 total. Maybe you should consider doing a custom exhaust?

    K series 626. That's right. It's got a K in it.

let's see. i think i know more about a max than you do.. i know not to put an intake so that it sucks in air right behind the cooler fans ....

also, do you know the difference between a cali spec or a fed spec...
hint- google it... i believe you must have a cali spec. i have a fed spec.. that is why i have precats on the y-pipe not the headers...

    thank you come again.

You say in the thread yourself all maxes have precats loser. And congrats, maybe you do know more about maxima's than me, I for one am very new to modding cars. Now go pat yourself on the back, your technical knowledge is better than someone new to this whole thing. Great accomplishment. You are a loser...

indeed they do.. what you failed to realize is that with the differences of the two specs, the precats are in different locations.. and actually, the maxima is the first car i've owned..and modded....
and to your claim that i'm a loser...ok? that's the best you can do?
:edit: ah i see what you're saying...you're right, in that reply i did seem to say it like that. what i mean to say is precats in the headers... silly me
