    Its an ecu/tuning related issue. With the 2000's, the car can rev up to 8400. In 2002's, the ecu won't allow it. I don't remember it exactly right now.

    You are correct! The 2000-2001 models have the 8350 rpm fuel cut and the 2002 and 2005 has a 7800 rpm fuel cut. Starting with the 2003 models the GT-S got drive by wire to replace the throttle cable. This is a big disadvantage because of the tuning options. The Apexi PFC only works on the 00-02 models unless you get the adapter cable made by Boosted 2.0 in Houston and it is around $700. Add the price of the PFC to that and tuning the DBW GT-S gets really expensive. The 03-04 GT-S had the 8350 rmp fuel cut which is a positive though so you can land in the powerband easier.
