i think some body kits if done right can be pulled off, i just hate seeing the ones riding around still in gel coat or primer and falling off. i think thats what ruined it for the body kit scene. like i said if done right they can be pulled off, just not really for me. just my

WoW about time some one grew some balls about this situation. Ppl these days are throwing the word Rice around so damn much ppl are scared of doing anything other than Lip,lower, rims to their car with out being persecuted by ppl just trying not to get flamed them selfs, Its really just a big Contradiction but glad to see some one is thinking things need to changed...iv been feeling this way for a while but with the way the word RICE has been thrown around its almost pointless. good post +1 to u sir

Saying your **** is JDM means nothing anymore. Has anyone seen what the car scene is like IN Japan lately? It isn't all "clean" or "JDM". Its what most of the fags on this site would call "rice". Remember a few years ago when everyone thought Miatas were good for nothin and people got made fun of for driving them? Now they're the **** and everyone has one and its ok because someone said it was cool. I had one in High school WAAAAAY before it was cool to have one and I loved it. I took alot of **** for it but I didn't care cause it was what I wanted and that was all that mattered. Who is one person to say that another persons car is "rice" anyway? Is it your car? Did you spend the money on it? If not then STFU. I swear to God if I hear one more person say the word rice outside of a restaurant I might have to commit sepuku(sp?). Now theres some REAL JDM **** for ya.

One more thing. Who says you have to own one of the big three (Honda, Nissan, Toyota) to be in the import scene? There isn't even a place on this site to sell a Hyundai or a Kia. Why? Because some flammer decided that they aren't "cool". Every car has potential if you spend enough time learning about it and working on it. Were Civics ever meant to run 9's? I get the feeling that in the 70's when Honda introduced the Civic thats not what they had in mind.

Excellent thread and I agree completely with what people are saying that, when done right it absolutely should be done.

My question is, why wait for it to be cool? Don't follow and start doing clean mods, that doesn't mean make the car stock, but make it tasteful.

I am pretty confident that if you roll up in a nicely done car with a good bodykit all the copying posers will be like "OMG I dont have to copy someone else b/c I now know what looks good!"

+1 to lots of you guys good points everyhwere. Im going to run through the thread and rep everyone ok.

When you don't put a body kit on your car just because sum1 says it doesn't look good then you're a ricer. When you a put a body kit on your car just cause sum1 says it will look cool you are a ricer. You have to do what you like and what you think looks good. If you do it for someone else what's the point? You'll never enjoy driving your car if it's only what everyone else likes. just my

i like kits on car's when there done right. i hate it when it's ok for a 240 that have a kit and it's the best looking thing ever but put one on a civic and it's rice. in my opion if you drive a honda it's rice. the term rice came from rice rocket which mean's any car made in japan. and the whole jdm thing should be called OEM because everybody that has a stock SI or really any civic call's it "jdm". i dont think i have ever used the term "my hatch is jdm" i like my hatch the way it is because i had a body kit on my coupe and i would drag it everytime i entered a parking lot or crossed a speed bump. i like lip kits now but it's your car so fix it up the way you like and fuk everyone else.

this is a nice thread. to me rice is just pointless junk on a car not necessarily only bodykits, i like mugen bodykits on rsx or 350zs. i have seen ricey mustangs... 20 inch wheels bodykit bright paint and a big wing, its not just japaneese cars. i dont think the domestic boys go for the usdm look...or do they???
I asked a girl if i could buy her a drink, she said I have a boyfriend, so I said, well i have a goldfish, she said what? I replied, oh I'm sorry I thought we were talking about shit that doesnt matter.

I have a widebody kit on my eclipse and when I'm at shows some people call it rice but I really dont give a ****. I built my car for me and no one else. I love it when some of the old school hot rod guys come up and say " Damn, that looks good. Somebody spent alot of time building that." Great thread

Georgia's scene gotten boring. Just like someone said, everyone is so worried about what other's think they don't want to be original and rather jump the bandwagon to fit in. "Time Attacks" for example.

Thanks, I still got it haha. It wasn't for a lot of people, but I still did it.

Yokota or whatever his sn is on here has his car kit'd, bagged, and multispoke wheels, but just because he's in Japan with something different; He's envied. I bet if anyone does it here, it'll be posted in the car pics forum with "Check out this Ricer LOLOL"

    you're insanely right!!
    his siG

    and PBSs' sig FTW!!

but back to topic......i've always liked kits according to what my taste was like. i was so indecisive, up to recently, about what i was going to put on my car, i didnt put a damn thang and just rolled with the dings til i made my mind up.....and i found one that suits my tastes and am saving up for it. but so long as someone COMPLETED the body work, or left the kit off their car till they were able to COMPLETE the bodywork i've been fine.

oh, and so long as it complemented the car well? i'm good. but then again, YOUR car isnt MY car, so everyone do whatever you like.

i've owned my 240 for 2 years now and bought it 'cause i've always like the S13(was a sophmore in HS, when i seen my first) and that's why i got it....then i noticed it was hugely popular....oh well...we all bought our cars hopefully because we like them, not to be fad-ish. I heard about drifting a 4+ years back when a friend of mine was stationed in japan, but my interest in it isnt huge....it sometimes irks me to hear "so are you gonna drift it?" my response, " i'd be interested in learning..." but i'd personally like to master my OVERALL driving skill, so i'm interested in all competitive driving forms...and i prolly won't go SR-rb-1jz-2jz.

your all ricers.............. nah but on a serious note it is all what you want. noone should even think twice about what some punkass at a gas station or the mall has to say about your car.. if its your money and you are happy with the finished product then by all means do it!

the only reason for putting a "body kit" on a car is if its functional.

    not necessarily....

Not every part of a car is made to go around a corner faster. Not everything put on race cars helps them go around it either.

Im all for speed and performance but there are exceptions to the rule.

Even with that being said...a "functional body kit" of coarse it's functional. It does the same thing the standard bumper did. Only now it might be more aerodynamic (i said might!).

I see that you all about the go, but you gotta realize there is a definite and important area in customizing a car (that term seems cleche) the looks.

Looks are one of the biggest points on a car. We know its yours by the way it looks. So if i was to put a non "functional" front bumper on your car what would happen. Im not talking bout a nasty front bumper that makes people point and laugh but one thats a bit sleeker than the one you have now. It serves no "function" but to look different.

Just to repeat myself.....they are all "functional" no matter how nasty.

most...i said MOST nice front bumpers are functional. either by stabilazation, downforce, top speed, or braking.

rice (not very functional and looks homo)...

nice (functional, streetable, looks good, and if put on the track, it would work)...

Granted the flying vagina on the civic is rice...period. But that kit on the s2000 is ok at best. Just seems boring....rather do stock front than that.

    It says

"i wanted to put a kit but i was afraid what my friends would think".

    I think this is better

    but enough of s2000 talk.

You already know i like performance but when it come to vehicles like this....

i couldn't care less how fast they are. It really is all about the looks.

Yeah I've seen that kit - I live on s2ki so I've seen them all I really don't like that front end that much but the rest is ok. The best looking s2k kit is the INGS +1:

I don't like kits - and I especially don't like wings - but I'd rock that in a heartbeat (not the graphics/stickers though - you couldn't pay me enough to have graphics/stickers on my car)

How can you have speed if you don't have the proper down force for the car or a way to cool your brakes? Especially if they are stock.

...but what it comes down to is a stock body car with a superior suspension & brake setup will still run circles around a car with the best aerodynamics but stock or ****ty suspension and brakes.

Wider bodies enable you to put wider wheels on, whether wider wheels & tires will make a car faster or handle better solely depends on the application. It is however normally more aggressive looking and more aesthetically pleasing with wider wheels and tires.
