Default Quick question about Porsche 911s

Why is the GT3 and GT3RS slower and crappier than the GT2?

Its like the whole RX7-RX8..why downgrade...TWICE?

    discuss.

    it's just a designation. higher # doesn't have to mean it's better.

yeah, but usually you want to improve on the car you just made, not downgrade and call it by the same name.

i don't understand the point ur trying to make. rx7 was replaced by the rx8. gt3 doesn't replace the gt2. they've both been out for a while and are both still in production.

I dont know where you get off calling the GT3s crappy, but they are N/A and making 415hp out of a flat six where the GT2 needs a turbo to make its 530hp. If you put the 3 cars on a road course, the running order for the whole race would probably be 1) GT3RS, 2)GT3, 3)GT2.

lol @ calling the GT3 crappy.. ask the question but don't make it obvious that you know nothing about the topic. I'll take the GT3 over 90% of cars available, it is one of the top road going sports cars made today.

GT3 is NA, GT2 is turbo, and i know a lot of people would rather have the NA despite having less power

That is the stupidiest question ive ever heard on IA.

First of all do you understand what a FIA GT2/GT3 car classification encompasses?

??? i'm not sure if you know this, but the GT3 isn't supposed to be as fast as the GT2. The GT3 is N/A, and has always been. It was named after the GT3 class in the FIA. The GT2 is supposed to be a step UP from the GT3 (just like the GT2 class is a step faster than the GT3 class in FIA). It is TT, and costs twice as much. There used to be a GT1, which was replaced by the carrera GT.

look it up before you ask a question like that.

Why would you think the GT3 was a replacement for the GT2? The new GT2 just came out AFTER the current GT3 model!!!!!

2008 GT2 (notice the much wider body and cooling/intake vents in the rear.

Wow, that is stupid. How about you do some research before looking like an idiot. GT3 is for a racing GT division 3 class, GT2 is for the GT division 2 racing class.

The Rx-8 is a completely different car. Mazda wanted it to be a "sports car for everybody" not a "purebread, shatter your teeth on pebbles diehard sports beast" like the FD was.

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

    i dont consider that car a 911,

    #1 Its mid engined

#2 In those days of GT1 anything went and for reason like this Toyota was able to get away with calling a fuel cell a trunk.

It was built on the 993 shell so in my book it counts, but that's just me.

i hate using wiki but this is accurate

"Porsche debuted the 911 GT1 in 1995, announcing that it would compete at the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans. In spite of its name, the car actually has very little in common with the 911, its floorpan was taken from the 956/962 Group C car. In addition, the GT1 featured a water-cooled, twin-turbocharged and intercooled, four valve per cylinder flat-six in a mid-mounted position and making about 600 horsepower (450 kW). In comparison, the 993 generation 911 GT2, which was otherwise the company's highest-performance vehicle, used an air-cooled engine with only two valves per cylinder and mounted in the rear, which is the traditional layout for the 911."

"The GT1 was based on the 993 bodyshell, but with modified exterior panels and a substantial roll-cage that also supported the engine, gearbox and suspension. This helped Porsche avoid neccessary crash testing and reinforced ties to the production cars..."

"...a complete interior included sport seats and a full dashboard from the 993 line..."
