Should i just go down to pep boys or something and pick up some cleaner?(bump)
Thing is, which one do i get??? (bump)
Purple power, great cleaner.
Or just buy some of that airplane paint stripper stuff, and start over with fresh metal.
You willing to give the wheels a fresh coat of paint afterwards? If so, then get a can of aircraft remover from a parts store...Originally Posted by GM_TUNER
Well, i have painted the wheels, but the thing i just dont like is how long it takes to get it all done RIGHT....I dont think id mind doing it again, i just want a look that'll actually be worth all the effort. When i do it, im just really careful, and id like something besides just another coat of black or something....
get the air craft stripper then, follow the instructions..once the wheels are dried completely, run some (approximately) 800 grit sand paper to the wheels, wipe them down with a damp cloth. then mask the tires and prime them with about two coats of primer, then lay down your base coat, and a clear coat if you want to and you are set.
What if i wanted to grind my steelies down and have them that shiny/bare-steel color?
Or what if i just aircraft it, grind the black off, and polish the steel, then clear-coat it?
EDIT: does anyone have a picture of this anywhere?
If you're gonna grind it down then there is no use in using aircraft stripper and it will probably still rust after clearcoat.Originally Posted by GM_TUNER
House of Kolors makes a chrome paint...or just have them chromed if you want shiney. You won't be able to polish the steel and get the look you want.
does the duplicolor chrome paint work well? would i need to clear coat to get the 'chrome shine'? i'm asking b/c i want to redo the wheels on my truck and i want to do the lip on the starions with the chrome paint, since some of the lips on the wheels lack...'shinyness'Originally Posted by speedminded
Oh okay...well, i was just sorta looking for a somewhat of a different look besides the standard black steeelie
EDIT: doesnt have to be super shiny. More like a brushed aluminum look (if i were to grind/polish em)
The time/money spent could be put to some clean stock wheels from another car...Originally Posted by phatboislim
What vehicle is this for?
It's steel, it won't and it will begin to rust before you can even clear coat it.Originally Posted by GM_TUNER
