mods, ur very limited unless u got money..
headers/ exhausts/intake is abotu all ur gonna get with a reasonable amount spent. LSD tranny is a great upgrade.
3.0 swap isnt too pricey either.

About reliability its a real reliable car, nemesis still has his cougar, which has the same 2.5v6 as the se contour, and hes been runnin it on a 75shot for atleast 2-3 years. and the car still runs great, and has perfect compression. His was a auto and i think got a 14.1 out of it with headers/75shot/Svt IM.. he would have been well into the 13's with a 5spd tranny.

i had no issues with mine at all. They did have issue with the water pumps, on the pre-98 years ( i believe) but it was b/c they used plastic impellers, but they upgraded to metal ones after 98. other than the water pump issues they are very reliable. But if u plan on beating up on it, the tranny is something that you owuld have to invest in..its strong, but doesnt take abuse.

    you plannin on gettin one?
