Default cheap, fun, reliable, baseline tuner cars.

im probably going to trade in my 96 maxima today to get a new car. im sick of all the maintenance and repairs thats comes with older cars. i could be spending that money on upgrades. anyway, so the cars im looking at now are TC's (yeah i know they are girl cars), newer civics, newer altimas, early 2000 maximas, possibly a 1500 series truck. basically i just want something that is fun stock, that i can mod to my taste. and that has under 50k miles and is reliable and will last me for a while.

    any advice/suggestions?

    price, size of the car?
If size is not a problem, s2k is the best, fast for stock, good handling, reliable.

If you're looking at a WRX then how is a Spec-V an option?

Newer cars has the same maintenence issues as well. Either way, you come out cheaper keeping an older vehicle. You will spend more money trying to fix up a new car vs. trying to maintain an older car and here's the reason. You have to actually purchase another car first first. Let's say that it will cost you maybe $1500 to make everything right on your Maxima. Then you take another $1500 and invest it into the engine. And if your budget can go even deeper, you spend an additional $1500 in chassis and suspension upgrades. So let's tally that up to $4500 for a vehicle that you already own.

Let's go to the newer car. First off, purchasing it. Oviously, the cars you mentioned is gonna be used somewhere in the $10k minimum. Then you start adding more stuff onto that newer car. let's go with the same budget. In all, if you think it's cheaper to spend over $10k for a vehicle, maybe you see something I don't. I'd keep the maxima and fix what's broken, then eventually boost it. But which ever is your choice.

    K series 626. That's right. It's got a K in it.

You should get a DSM if you don't want to do much maintenance/repairs.

if you can afford them, best bang for the buck imo
    srt-4 or wrx
idk much about the srt-4 aftermarket but im sure its almost the same if not better than the wrx
wrx - turboback exhaust+tune *ex. cobb ap OTS map* = 280 hp and around 325tq all for under $1k if you can get an exhaust cheap

almost everyone in this thread is being biased to their own vehicle.

go with what u feel. weigh your options. FWD, RWD, AWD (wheel hop, to no traction, to transfer case breakin), 4cyl vs 6cyl vs 8cyl (gas mileage, price on mods, reliablility of each motor) if something breaks on each car, how long would it take to get fixed? questions like those.

drive all the cars and see what u like. figure out how much are mods and labor and purchase the vehicle which fits your budget
