Default Which oil do you use/recomennd?

Just wondering, what kind/type of oil do you use?

I use Mobile 1 15w-50 synthetic right now. I am thinking of switching to Valvoline VR-1 Mineral racing motor oil.
All this is on a 95k mile 12 valve VR6, with cams and a rebuilt head. Piston rings leak a little bit though, and the car burns 1 quart of oil in every 1000 miles if i drive it really hard, and about .5 per 1000 miles if not taken over 4k rpm. Now, all you Honda guys are probably thinking that my bottom end is done when in fact my oil consumption is a little bit higher then it should be.
The car originally came with Mineral oil by the way.

Anyone thinks that I will not benefit from the change?

"racing oil" should be for "race cars"

Well, VR1 racing oil differers as it has higher levels of Zinc and Phosphorus, which make it better (those are the particles in oil that protect metal from friction damage).
I decided to go for this oil, as a friend of mine who used to race cars runs this in his M3, and he knows what he is talking about.
Plus whenever on mountain runs, I put about 250 miles on the car each time running it at 5k+ rpm, so I figured that it would work pretty good for me.

And whats wrong with Castrol? I thought that it is good oil.

to each his own....mobil 1 full syn would be more than ample for your application, even on those mountain runs, if youre so concerned about it then just change the oil after your fun, i know of anal people who would do oil changes after hitting the 1/4 mile a few times

    as for castrol...heres the lowdown...

"A word about synthetics: Only oils that are created using Poly-Alpha-Olefin based technology are considered to be 'synthetic'. At least by anyone who knows better. The Castrol 'Syntec' synthetic oil is actually just a much more thoroughly refined 'dino', coming from the same crude that all conventional 'dinos' come from. Even though their base stocks closely approach the performance of PAO synthetics, they still contain trace elements, and are still susceptible to the effects of temperature extremes that full synthetics are almost immune to. By the way, Castrol does not make their own oil. They never have. They don't even own a single refinery. Never have. They simply buy their base stocks from one of the commercial suppliers (Coastal-Unilube is one), buy a custom-blended additive package from an additive supplier, and have a bottler package and label it all for them. That doesn't mean that it isn't any good. It is very good. But in repeated testing, the Castrol products exhibit a wide variance in performance, the results of getting their products from many different suppliers. 'Syntec' may be good, even excellent oil...but it sure ain't synthetic! "

Ahh, thats good to know, so Castrol also doesn't provide consistently the same oil huh. Good to know.
I already bought VR1, so I'll run it in my car and see how much my engine likes it. And I do change it after having "fun", not always replace the filter though. The filters in the VR6 engine is a cartridge type that has a really big surface area (and costs $14), and is good for 7500 miles, so now I will most likely change the filter ever 4k, and change the oil every 2k miles. I'll put it in today and tell you guys if anything changed.

Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30 all day in the Corolla. Light viscosity seems to make the car more eager to rev, and a little more responsive. I've tried Royal Purple a couple of times at drift events, which felt good, but wasn't worth the huge step up in price.

    Mobile 1 full syn ftw.

I'll agree that the royal purple, and various other high-end lubricant manufacturers, are a bit too pricey for DD. Atleast with as many miles i put on my car.
