ur 19s weigh 27? thats pretty heavy. then again it IS a 19... its always gonna be heavy.

personally, i wouldnt put anything bigger than MAYBE a 16 on my miata. kinda like comparing apples to oranges.... lol

Well damn! My cheap as ****, going to get me killed because they are unsafe, i should be embarrased to drive in public sportmax 962's(yea its a shameless knockoff wheel plug) in a 18x9.5 weigh in at 29 lbs.... and they cost me how much for the set $600 oh ****e son!! I just hope my wheel doesnt just break cause its so ballin ha ha.

Really yokota everyone likes what you do with your cars. Your wheels/fitments are sick. I love the vip style and i liked your s13 too but knock off wheels aren't that bad. Until everyone got the wheels I actually thought the sportmax wheels were badass.

I use rotas as dailys in DC's ungodly streets and as DE wheels with street tires (not shy of curbing either). Seen many others who use them on autocross, DE, daily cars with street or R comps without problems. Incidents happen with all kinds of wheels, the difference is the same Rota failure pics get recycled all over the internet, several years after it happened. And with the sheer amount of Rotas that get being used, I'm not surprised there's isolated incidents of failures. In the end, I could care less if people know it's Rota or not, as long as it works for me and does the job.

TIRES are where the safety concern is, not the wheels. I've seen as many or more high quality "race" wheels bend than 5lb. heavier "knock-off" wheels. I'd say driving on a cheap no name tire on a forged wheel is far more dangerous than a heavier cast wheel with a high quality tire.

Around here what is the ratio of Rota or equivalent to a big name manufacturer? 5 to 1? 10 to 1? So of course there will be more stories about the cheaper version, especially when dealing with bad road conditions and the way some people drive.

wheel/tire fitment is an art in Japan that hasn't doesn't translate in the US market.
the japanese truly value the quality and functionality of proper extreme wheel/tire fitment.
that being said, i completely appreciate proper fitment and quality products

thin sidewall tires dont absorb as much impact form potholes and whatnot

but the diff between a real wheel bending. you can get it straightened without weakening the metal too much.
a cast knockoff i woudlnt straighen one for any money.

And all of japan uses real wheels....way outnumbers the US knockoff uses....so still, youd see pictures or somethig off some video or some ****...since everythign else makes it on message boards ya know?
There is more than the United states i the world that modify cars....

It's still not at all a common thing for Rotas and others to break. I personally have a much harder time understanding people that put on wheels that are worth 50% of the value of their car.

dang, i wish i could move to japan and be so jdm tyte with my wheelzz like Yokota...

...until then i will deal with my snapped hubs, bent rims, and car that has been deemed "unsafe" by Yokota himself... enjoying it at the auto-x course, and for all my "spirited" driving purposes.

Quit trying to make it sound like everyone's wheels are going to snap off their car because they're cheaper than the "real deals." Do you realize how many different sets of rims have been cranked out by Rota, Sportmaxx, Drag, and everyone else? Chances of workmanship defect are greater simply because of sheer numbers alone.

thats exactly why. to save money. the knockoff wheels arent any weaker or lower quality than the originals. they might be a little heavier, but thats where the use of the wheels comes in.

and btw i wasnt trying to be a **** about your muffler tip, its just VERY unique lol...

^ now before you say that jesse... it is a proven FACT that forged metal is stronger than CAST (which is the biggest difference between the wheel makers)

Now one has to debate whether the trade off of wheel strength -vs- price is enough to jusify the cost and "reliability" of the cheaper wheel.

That's really the only argument here. And my answer to that is "in most cases, yes."

The road where most Japanese cars drives on is way better than what we have here. And people over there do not mind spending more money on their car than ours if they do actually do spend money on their ride. So with better road and better wheels/tires, They are safe. You get a thin enough tire hitting a pot hole and it will damage your wheel.

Sheer amount? Funny, I've yet to see one Work/Weds/Rays wheel being used on track in person, maybe if I go to some drift events I'll see more of them lol?

Meh, I don't get that either. Different strokes for different folks. Personally I can still have pride in my vehicle without spending exorbitant (relatively) amounts of money on one component for it.

And I just think it's kind of a "Get off your high horse" situation when you're saying people are "degrading" their rides by putting on knock-off wheels. I can think of a lot of other things that are A LOT worse than a good looking set of wheels.

Eh whatever, I'm done with this thread. This is pretty much like debating religion, no one's mind is going to be changed :)

The debate comes down to cast vs. forged wheels. What do you think come on 99% of vehicles stock?

I've driven 30k+ miles on Rota Subzero's while working in Buckhead for over 2 years with no breaks. Of course i'm only running a 16" wheel but I cracked and warped the 17" Konig Traffiks that were originally on the car driving down there. Between unmarked road plates and pot holes it's nearly impossible to get larger wheels to last down here...even forged wheels get bent all the time.

but id rather have both. the knock offs for when im on the street/doin the Daily Driving, and the ones id most likly have warped up in pampers to keep dust off them for shows, and what not.
